how to make friends in a new city: > say yes to everything for the first 3 months > ask locals what they like to do in the area - you can follow their recs for inspiration > when you vibe with someone, ask to hang. don't wait for them to initiate!! > try multiple communities & events to see what resonates - don't commit to just one > try to meet one new person at every event you go to > you can be direct & open - "I just moved here & want to meet more people, want to grab coffee?" > be specific about meeting up *at a specific day/time* not just some distant point in the future > don't take rejection personally - people may be busy or have different schedules > know that some amount of homesickness is normal - that doesn't mean you made the wrong decision > stay in touch with your community from home so you don't feel so alone > once you meet a few people, host small gatherings (even 4 people for dinner) - fastest way to build a friend group > you never know if *someone* will introduce you to *someone* who becomes your new best friend. the power of network effects is real!! > iterate over time - keep meeting new people, trying new things & have fun with it! > give it TIME - it takes time to find your rhythm NOW you can make friends wherever you go!! just be intentional about finding them!! your people are waiting to meet you!!! you got this!!!

how to life maxx more: > get off your phone > say yes to spontaneous plans even when you're tired - some of the best nights are unplanned > talk to strangers - at coffee shops, events, literally anywhere. serendipity maxx > make a bucket list and work your way through said bucket list!! > stop opting for boring hangs. switch things up with your friends. try something new!! > start a random hobby just for fun - pottery, dance, improv, cooking. not everything needs to "be productive" ok?? > be 5% more silly in your life. dance in your room, sing badly in the car, crack a bad joke. it's not that serious. grow the silly muscle > surround yourself with people who make you feel lighter - your time and energy is precious > don't forget the basics: move your body, get sunlight, take your vitamins, eat well, sleep > your time to live life is happening NOW so stop saving it for later!! we forgot that life is supposed to be FUN ya'll lets go PLAY!!!

Apparently I’m being hired to make business conferences less boring??? I’ve signed contracts to speak/moderate panels at 3 entrepreneurship events in the next few months!!! (still processing that tbh. feels slightly surreal.) Every PR email said some version of: “we want you to bring fun and energy!” Which I’m choosing to interpret as: “This could be an excruciatingly boring conference of AI founders… please save it” So yes... I am now professionally employed to bring chaos and stop panels from sounding like ChatGPT generated LinkedIn posts. Honestly… dream job!

how to organically move a convo past small talk number one tip: ASK FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS!!!! when someone mentions: their job -> ask how they like it a hobby -> ask how they got into it a trip -> ask about the best part literally anything -> ask one more question people drop little clues about themselves ALL. THE TIME. but most people miss it because they don't ask any follow ups this is what separates small talk from real convos people!!! it shows you're actually interested, makes the other person feel heard, and naturally leads to finding common ground. lean in & watch your social life transform!!

the lost art of Shooting Your Shot: > get comfortable talking to strangers again > start with smiling at the people on the street, then move to talking > my favorites intro lines are almost as though you're letting them into your inner monologue like: - "I can't decide between X or Y (on the menu)" - "have any favorites that you order here? I want to try something new" - *comment on a product they're holding or wearing* - "wow that yoga class was so great today - I have to come again" > you can usually sense their appetite for connection. if they feel warm and friendly, you can keep it going - "have you been here before?" > typically the conversation starts flowing from here!! > sometimes people aren't in the mood to chat and that's no biggie - notice it’s not even “approaching” someone… it’s just… talking! so you can do this with platonic and romantic interests > it’s less about what you say vs HOW you say it. be polite, disarming, warm, and give an easy out if someone isn’t interested > fight through the initial discomfort so that you can increase your appetite for this type of convo > NOW you've practiced the muscle and can apply it to your romantic prospects strangers aren't as scary as they seem! you'll start living a life thats more open and fun! go say hello!!!
