Lebanon should make peace with Israel. Lebanon should join the Abraham Accords. There should be an Israeli embassy in Beirut and a Lebanese embassy in Jerusalem. These shouldn’t be controversial opinions.

I’m writing this because I actually do care about Lebanon, and many times I wrote that the Lebanese state needs to get all the support it can get to deal with Hezbollah. However, to be reminded of Lebanon just when Israel is fighting it won’t do a thing for Lebanon

Everybody suddenly cares about Lebanon when it’s Israel that is bombing the country. No one cared about Lebanon when Hezbollah took the country hostage and dragged it to war one time after another. No one cared when Hezbollah assassinated Lebanese people that tried to stand up against them. No one cared when Hezbollah prevented the Lebanese military from doing its job to secure the country. Let’s see if when the dust settles and the war ends those that “care about Lebanon” will continue to care. Such a tragedy

Put another way, even though Hezbollah has been attacking Israel since 10/8, even though we knew Hezbollah had long-term plans to invade Israel (and might have done so on 10/8 had Biden not made it clear the US would intervene if it did), even though Hezbollah has broken every cease-fire deal it has signed with Israel, and even though Israel has no territorial or national dispute with Hezbollah, and would be thrilled to live in neighborly peace with Lebanon, you think Israel should just sit back and let Hezbollah depopulate Israel's north. Why? It's not civilian casualties, or you would have been condemning the Obama administration (and resigning if you were stil there) over the war against IS.

Hate Israel all you want but one thing is absolutely, abundantly clear after the rescue of the American pilots and as this war has proceeded: No other ally in the world today actively assists the US as Israel does. They are the truest ally in every sense of the word. NATO won't even let the US fly through their airspace. Israel? They'll put their own pilots in the line of fire to rescue an American.
