America is strongest when it stands shoulder to shoulder with NATO. We do not bow to tyrants or abandon allies. Peace comes through strength, unity, and steel resolve. Back the alliance, defend freedom, and make every enemy think twice. No apologies. N.A.T.O is non negotiable.

@sentdefender NATO: 'Where's our big American brother? Trump: 'Pay your bills or get left in the dust. Europe had decades to step up. Now they’re crying while we handle Iran solo. Time to ditch the freeloader alliance.

In addition to his remarks to Reuters on Iran, U.S. President Donald J. Trump reiterated his criticisms of NATO on their lack of support for U.S. operations against Iran and ventures to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, adding that he is “absolutely” considering withdrawing the U.S. from the trans-Atlantic defense alliance.

The Administration would almost certainly assert and litigate that POTUS has the inherent constitutional power to abrogate treaties. I am not optimistic about how SCOTUS would rule given the existing precedent. Namely Bush’s unilateral withdrawal from the ABM Treaty.
Shashank Joshi@shashj

Trump cannot formally abrogate commitment to NATO, but he can do it informally: just say that he will no longer abide by A5 or place conditions on it. He could also withdraw some forces (in practice, not all) or abrogate the nuclear umbrella. All unlikely, for now.

In a Reuters interview ahead of a primetime address, President Trump said he’ll express “my disgust” with NATO and is “absolutely” considering withdrawing the United States from the alliance. Trump also claimed he doesn’t care about Iran’s nuclear material status and will monitor it by satellite.

This is the most absurd statement I’ve seen in a while from Trump. Ukraine has always been with the United States and has even offered assistance in dealing with drone attacks from Iran. This idea that Ukraine isn’t benefiting us is ridiculous.

Trump says he is strongly considering leaving NATO, citing U.S. support in the Ukraine war: "Ukraine wasn’t our problem. It was a test, and we were there for them, and we would always have been there for them. They weren’t there for us." - The Telegraph

@johnkonrad Trump has never been right when it comes to national security reasons, John, and it’s really pathetic that every single chance you get, you seem to kiss his ass near daily without offering any sort of meaningful, constructive criticism of his national defense policy.

Trump said we need Greenland because we can’t trust NATO to let us use it in a war. He said we need a battleship 100x more powerful to keep straits open. Europe laughed. Trump was right.

Also, it’s concerning once again that the President of the United States is repeating Russian talking points as if they are written directly by the Kremlin. I hope House Democrats and Republicans, along with Senate Republicans and Democrats, understand how deeply troubling it is.

He cannot unilaterally pull the United States out of NATO. Due to a recent change in law, he would need congressional approval to do so, and if he tries to do so without congressional approval, he’d be sued. Also, again, NATO is a defensive alliance, so why would they join us?
OSINTdefender@sentdefender

U.S. President Donald J. Trump told The Telegraph that he is strongly considering pulling the United States out of NATO after it failed to join his ongoing war against Iran, stating that the alliance is a “paper tiger” and that this is known by Russia and President Vladimir Putin.

@JJCarafano President Trump pulled back the curtain on the reality of NATO. Fair-weather allies so comfortable with American largesse that their own militaries shrunk and are lacking funding. Factor in the conditional use fine print of bases maintained by US? No. Time to pull it all back.

European nations are in the world’s most powerful military alliance that protects the whole transatlantic community —wanting, seeking, promoting, pushing for, desiring anything less than NATO—that is level in stupid never seen by modern man.
