@AVARY The theme of They Live is instantly recognizable and timely.
POD is a deeply unsettling cosmic horror that sits just out of focus, out of the corner of my eye. Every now and then, it sends a shiver a fear down my spine to remind me it's just beyond the mirror

@AVARY I'm with they live but damn damn how has Prince of darkness grown on me over the years
English

@AVARY No question— Prince Of Darkness. The insane future broadcast through their dreams shot on a shitty handy cam was revolutionary at the time. The impending doom that just never stops growing. Every scene reveals more. I just adore it…. And that fucking score!
English

@AVARY Quantum favorite?
Whats with the neutrino flavor of the month t-shirt?
English

@AVARY Hard choice, both classics. I’m going with the container of satanic green slime.
English

@AVARY They Live is a legendary film and the better of the two IMO.
English

@AVARY The special effects have not aged well compared to the black and white timeless feel of They Live but prince of darkness has that weird religious/science lore so Prince of darkness wins for me
English

@AVARY Price of Darkness is good but just can't beat the lunacy that is They Live.

Okay, I’m gonna throw my hat in for PoD. The atmosphere is off the charts. Very few movies gives you a sense that the universe itself is reeling from the evil about to be released. The use of a mirror as a portal, that shot of the hand coming through the water and then the girl being pulled in… perhaps some of the most expressive images he’s ever committed to film.

@AVARY I really wanna hug John Carpenter.
I related more to the vagabond with sunglasses kicking ass - then I did with some college students and a priest with some green liquid.
But both shits are tight.
English

@AVARY I often joke that They Live and Terminator 2 are my favorite documentaries. 😂
English

@AVARY I'm in the minority here with PoD, but that film is genuinely unsettling. Like you're thirty years old and you don't let your foot dangle off the bed unsettling...
English

@AVARY POD is huge leap forward in ideas Carpenter was to innovate the presentation for: more important, complicated movie. THEY LIVE demonstrates how high a level Carpenter Clique working. Show THEY LIVE to anyone; they'll like it. follow w POD? they'll watch five more flicks.
English

@AVARY They Live is an all-timer since I saw it when I was 10 but don’t sleep on Prince of Darkness - it shot way up for me the older I got and gives of a sense of dread that the younger me didn’t quite get at the time. In the last month I picked up the steelbook
English

@AVARY They Live is honestly his masterpiece but Prince of Darkness is a gem
English

@AVARY Green tornado ftw. This is one of my favorite Wizard of Oz horror references, like ‘Windy Torrents.’

@AVARY Well, I picked Prince of Darkness
I didn’t know he took QM. I thought he was just a music & film guy. That’s pretty cool.
English

@AVARY Whereas They Live is a parable that makes you think, Prince of Darkness makes you think, gets under your skin, and sticks with you.
English

They Live.
First time I watched Prince of Darkness, I was mesmerized, whereas I initially enjoyed They Live while finding it somewhat superficial.
Cue to various rewatches that were too close to change anything.
When rewatching them in recent years, Prince… felt a bit dated, but They Live had gained something, possibly through the way it builds upon a very blatant social and ideological divide which might be even stronger today.
Still, I figure I’d now need another screening of Prince, because I miss my very first impression of it lol
English

@AVARY They Live has to be one of the most Libertarian movies out there along with The Fountainhead & Rollerball.
English

@AVARY If I had to choose, I’d say They Live because of the message, but Prince Of Darkness is fucking baller horror.
