The Anthropic Mythos release does not appear near the top of the homepage on any major news site today. The NYT is closest, but it's still pretty far down. The Guardian thinks a Vogue cover with Anna Wintour and Meryl Streep is more important. The Washington Post is prioritizing yet another "we tried to get into Berghain" story. The media is not adequately covering the insane moment we are in.

to add some context: all these outlets have excellent tech journalists many of whom have covered the news. the problem is the *editors* of these outlets don't understand its importance, and are doing a bad job of conveying what actually matters to their audience.

@ShakeelHashim A Middle East war, threat of nuclear escalation and stock market roller coaster will do that. Trump has been sucking all the oxygen out of the room at a very pivotal time in history. The US eye is off the ball at the worst possible time.

@ShakeelHashim Journalists know better than anyone when a marketing/PR team is working overdrive...and they won't cover it. This Mythos hype is marketing. Anthropic's tech is great for what it is, it's a shame they are stooping to such pathetic low levels to make a buck.

@ShakeelHashim @morqon To release something you need to actually make it available. Why cover Anthropic's pre-IPO marketing exercise? Vemdor claims abou the performance of unreleased models is very far from the interest of the general public.

@ShakeelHashim Yawn. They’re not falling for the hype, and I think that’s totally fair. Major news don’t need to reflect the latest Tech/AI Twitter bubble obsessions.

I'm curious about where Anthropic goes from here. They say they are delaying the release of the new model due to safety implications. But are these implications realistically going to change that much a week or two weeks from now? If they eventually release the model do they then get blamed when someone hacks something with it? Do they never release their new model?

@ShakeelHashim I think it's fine. It's better if the end of the world comes suddenly for most people than if it's announced over a long period. That prevents fear and panic. It's better if people enjoy their time.

@ShakeelHashim In 8 weeks, we've gone from: SaaS is dead because everyone can vibecode their own CRM To AI is an unprecedented risk to all but the most secure infrastructure And you want people to form a coherent response to this?

@ShakeelHashim Most people don't care to read stories on cyber security, just like they wouldn't care to read an article of flame-retarding toys / clothes. They just expect that it will be safe, and the makers will follow state of the art standards.

@ShakeelHashim well to be honest, regardless of the current situation, every few months the AI ceo's have been telling the world that this time it's fr fr, so it wouldn't surprise me if that got a little old

@ShakeelHashim with so much going on in the world, it makes sense. but, breakthroughs like this are so crucial to be covered by mainstream media outside of the tech bubble and eventually they definitely will

@ShakeelHashim Well, news media have an immediacy bias, i.e. it’s more important if it has more immediate consequences (just as recency bias = important if recent). What if a media org had a long-term-impact bias - kinda like EA, but for news? Oh, wait… 😂
