@andysparks @NathanParcells Hi @NathanParcells! A) wonderful name B) Very curious to hear if you have any recommended reading for the causal foundation of enneagram theory, especially beyond the basic idea of "we have core bad experiences in childhood that lead to personality types"

Going through my "obsessed with enneagram" era I like the descriptions of the various personality types, but I'm really interested in the causal theory behind how personality forms and functions (we all experience particular common types of problems in childhood and our personalties are built to solve for this kind of problem). What should I read if I want to go deeper on the causal theory? Like why are "wings" a thing? Why are the "stress and growth arrows" a thing? Why are the "harmonic groups" a thing?

@Magzter2308 @andysparks @nbaschez Happy to chat for 30 with anyone who is curious to go deeper (email Nathan @ sharpend.co) Best teachers of the Enneagram are Upbuild Coaching. They unpack the types and connection to core motivations, fears, and ego an incredibly thorough and thoughtful way.

@AbhayVenkatesh1 For 99% of companies titles are the right move but for Palmer lucky they are not. Another good example is Tobias Lutkes approach to fundraising. No one would have told him to bike to his meetings on sand hill road, and no one else should do that. And, it was right for him.

@AbhayVenkatesh1 I’ve been a founder and worked with 100s of founders. One thing that’s crystallized is there’s no one right approach. More often it’s valuable for founders to understand the principles of things like incentives and status but then lean into their unique approach to leadership.

Perhaps the one thing I disagree the most with Anduril is it's anti-title culture. I am extremely team Marc Andreessen on this topic: humans are status-driven creatures, and titles are free, so it seems strictly worse to not give people titles.

Ok friends I could use some advice. The last 2 months I completely fell off my eating healthy & working-out daily routine because of work travel, workload & stress. Now I’m at a willpower low-point wrt to restarting because I’m going to be lifting a lot less than before + the road seems long and hard to just get back to where I used to be. I know I should just get started but I’m having trouble motivating. Tips?

Sometimes I meet early stage cofounders and have a sinking feeling that they are not going to make it as partners long term…. But I can’t really tell them that ☹️

I usually send my newsletter on Sundays. For Labor Day Weekend, do you think I should send as usual? Send Monday? Skip and send next week?

@ShaanVP in the same vein, choosing which emails to write on mobile vs laptop has a huge impact on flow and performance mobile for partner conversations, 1-1 feedback, etc laptop for team emails, project management and structured convos As always context informs content.

Who wins, the one who wants it least (and has leverage) or the one who wants it most (and has zeal)? Leverage wins when you need their cooperation, when you need a counterparty to sign. Zeal wins when you can win without their cooperation, when you don’t need a formal surrender.

@sab8a Here's a link to a company that does white glove coach-founder matching: practice.community The above is probably what you need as it seems like you have plenty of recs. I personally get the most out of coaches who specialize (body, Enneagram, co-founder issues, etc.).

@wes_kao I like the Enneagram for this. When used effectively it can help leaders recognize if they over index on confidence or lack of confidence as well as how to course correct.

We talk a lot about imposter syndrome but overconfidence is just as much of a problem. I’d love more conversation on how to avoid overconfidence and a framework for recognizing when self-assessment is out of sync with reality.
