I call them tourists because they don't actually do anything. They are passive passengers. If the vehicles were completely empty, absolutely nothing would change. NASA sends astronauts to space to conduct actual missions. SpaceX, Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic, etc. have passive tourists.

More than likely, each of those screens has individual control electronics, to be completely independent from others. Also there are physical buttons in Dragon, just all of them are below the screens.

As a European, I am not afraid that the USA will leave NATO. We already know that they do not have good intentions to Europe and that we, therefore, have to build our defence to be able to fight without the Americans. We are well on our way and it will happen a lot faster if the USA leaves NATO officially. Russia is too weak and small to be a long term threat to Europe. They simple can not match what we can produce. As long as we keep Ukraine from falling, Russia is also not a threat to us in the short term. So if the USA leaves NATO, it is simple for us: Keep Ukraine from falling at all costs and build up European defence and weapon production as fast as humanly possible. We can and we will do that and Europe will be absolutely fine and safe.

I’ll say one thing -- this whole idea of “we are surrounded by enemies, everyone owes us, we’ve always been cheated and robbed, and now we must take back what is rightfully ours” is a very, very dangerous thing. It’s great for irresponsible demagogues and populists to quickly score political points by feeding on mass resentment and sowing division. This idea of “they are our enemies and everything is their fault” is incredibly easy to sell and very tempting to buy, because it seems to offer simple answers to very complex problems. But history shows quite well that this kind of populist revanchism has never led anyone to anything good. Gdy przegrał wybory w 2020 roku — winni byli demokraci i ich rzekome oszustwa. Dokładnie ten sam mechanizm działa teraz z Iranem. W jego głowie wszystko poszło idealnie: zniszczył irańskie systemy rakietowe, zatopił marynarkę wojenną, zmienił trzy reżimy. Odniósł — jak sam uważa — największy sukces militarny w historii świata. Jest tylko jeden problem: Cieśnina Ormuz nadal zablokowana. Ale to oczywiście nie jego wina. Winni są tchórze z NATO, którzy boją się przeprowadzenia „prostej operacji militarnej” odblokowania Cieśniny. Nie spodziewam się, że Trump wyprowadzi USA z NATO. To byłoby zbyt kosztowne politycznie. Ale będzie konsekwentnie utrwalał narrację o słabości i tchórzostwie sojuszników — i to jest bardzo szkodliwe dla Paktu. Zresztą już to robi.

If the USA does not intend to honour the obligation to defend NATO because European countries dont join an offensive war of choice against Iran that we have absolutely no obligation to join, the USA membership of NATO is already worthless. The NATO oath to defend each other is unconditional. If you dont intend to honour it because you are offended about disagreements that have nothing to do with the treaty obligation that you have sworn to uphold, your are not a realiable ally. Tresties with you are worthless and your word means nothing. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case for the USA.

All the smallest collisions will chip at it, creating even more debris & higher risk. That's why leaving ISS in any orbit is not feasible or safe.

My preference would be for industry to focus on responding to RFIs, as what matters is achieving the correct, safe, and affordable outcome so that America and our international partners avoid giving up a presence in low Earth orbit. To be extremely clear, the ISS has an end date per the national space policy, which will require a transition to one or, ideally, more commercial space stations. NASA’s recent history of undertaking big endeavors with industry and arriving on time and on budget is not perfect, as highlighted in most OIG reports. So it should be understandable that we want to get this right. We have put out RFIs to industry for commercial space stations and are eager to review the feedback. From there, we can move very quickly. In the interim, we have expanded the PAM program, permitted further monetization of those astronaut seats, and will prioritize the highest-potential commercial research on the station. As someone who has personally spent hundreds of millions on commercial spaceflight and has a reasonably informed sense of the domestic and international market, I want nothing more than for there to be demand that supports lots of people living and working in space someday.
