@jessesingal literally every non pacifist just war theorist has to admit that it can be morally and legally justified to kill children as an unintended consequence of pursuing some just war aim.

Would any reasonable person with 5th-grade reading comprehension interpret Wood as saying he thinks it is morally okay to kill children? The level of (what I believe to be) intentional midwittery on here is so frustrating -- it defeats the entire purpose of clear writing.

To everyone saying, "but they flock to me on the dating apps:" YES! Because they want to hook up and then move "part-time" into your well-appointed condo and drink your wine and eat your Erewhon takeout and watch all your premium streaming channels until you can't take it anymore and kick them out.

Sorry, but "young men pursuing older women" is not a real thing. It's not a real thing in the same way the body positivity movement was not a real thing, which it so happens I talked about in the latest pod episode. Video in next post.

Really good interview on the neo-morality (without realizing it) One general point, which applies to the content here, but also beyond it, is the extent to which Americans of all backgrounds and positions in society are running away: away from other Americans, away from the US as it currently exists. Zoomer men want to run away from zoomer women; older women want to run away from older men; Democrats want to run away from a racist, sexist, nakedly capitalist US; MAGA wants to run away from America as an economic zone; the professional class wants to run away from the chuds; that the economy is fake, broken, and too expensive is consensus; China is soon to take over, or maybe has already won; the olds are exploiting the young; AI will doom us all; white identitarians believe they are exploited by minorities; progressives believe the country structurally privileges whites; feminists think it’s patriarchal; the manosphere thinks men are the exploited gender No one, it seems, wants to defends the US as it currently exists, and that includes - maybe especially includes - the elite, who all believe one or more versions of the above This is unique in the American experience; there’s never been a time in our history when *no one* could summon the will to defend the currently established order. That is inherently unstable, and contributes substantially to the present political uncertainty and sense of general unseriousness ————— I’ll also note that no one in the interview mentions the obvious about older female-younger male relationships, which is that they are almost by definition non-generative. In contrast, Older male-younger female can produce lots of children. So the extent to which the reverse becomes more common will by definition further suppress the birth rate.

@xwanyex i agree that private property ownership is an intrinsic good. but since land is scarce, there is a question of distribution. who-under what conditions, does someone have a legitimate claim on land? should the first to get there and put a fence around it be entitled to it forever?

This relates to the difference in world view I noted the other day, about how my support for markets is based on a sense that, “the flourishing is in the doing,” not merely in the outcomes it achieves. Markets and property are themselves an “outcome.” The impression I get with a lot of modern neoliberal YIMBY types is that they’ve become convinced of something that makes the graph go up and so their support for markets, sometimes reluctant, sometimes enthusiastic, is always as a means to an end. So here with this obsession with efficiency of land use. But I don’t support private property merely because I think it’s the most productive way to divide up the land, so having not started with that proposition, I am not tempted to maximize that one variable. No I think that property owner ownership is good for its own sake. It’s good to own property. It’s good for your soul. It’s good to live in a country where you can be rich enough to carve out and maintain your own little piece of land. And it’s not a tragedy when some particular human being occupies a parcel in a way that does not achieve the highest and best imaginable use.
VB Knives@Empty_America

Economists like property taxes because it makes every single person a "slave" who must constantly earn a wage or be cast out onto the street. Prevents ever attaining a feeling of "security" which might allow "leisure." That is what they don't want you to ever have.

Been there (my photo from inside where Hezbollah drilled into solid rock). Hezbollah built hundreds of these tunnels and bunkers along the border under the watch of over 10,000 UN forces supposedly there to prevent it. They filled their tunnels with weapons and rockets. Some meant to conduct an October 7th style attack much larger than what Hamas executed. @KatiePavlich

Why is it difficult (yet necessary) to root out Hezbollah and destroy its terrorist infrastructure, stockpiles, and means of movement? Because this is what they’ve built: sophisticated tunnels - with lighting, comms, and rail transport - drilled through solid rock as deep as 20 stories below the surface. This tunnel near Shtula under the Israel-Lebanon border (aka right under the UN’s nose) was discovered and sealed by the IDF during Operation Northern Shield.

And splashdown! America is back in the business of sending astronauts to the Moon and bringing them home safely. Reid, Victor, Christina, and Jeremy did an outstanding job. These talented astronauts inspired the world and represented their space agencies and nations as humanity’s ambassadors to the stars. This was a test mission, the first crewed flight of SLS and Orion, pushing farther into the unforgiving environment of space than ever before, and it carried real risk. They accepted that risk for all we stood to learn and for the exciting missions that follow, as we return to the lunar surface, build a Moon base, and prepare for what comes next. And they were not alone. The entire NASA workforce, our commercial and international partners, and the hopes and dreams of people all over the world were with them. The astronauts know it, and you should too. This mission would not have been possible without you. Congratulations. Artemis II, mission accomplished.

When I think about "who is winning" I recall that before Oct. 7, it was widely believed that if Israel provoked the full fury of Iran and Hezbollah, much of northern Israel would be destroyed, Haifa would be in ruins, and there would be tens if not hundreds of thousands of Israeli casualties. Instead, while life is unpleasant in Israel, having to constantly run to shelters constantly, the death toll is barely over a dozen, Israel with US collaboration has destroyed much of Iran's military power, and Israel has established a large and expanded buffer zone it what was Hezbollah's territory. I think I know who is winning.

This guy thinks someone born overseas might not be able to understand or adopt British values Interesting
Stanlei@stanlei1

@DanielJHannan I have absolutely no disdain for Britishness. I have total disdain for bigotry, ignorance and intolerance. Those are not British values, to my eyes. But then, as a man born in Peru, perhaps you can’t be expected to understand British values.

@pmarca Yud, you mentioned the ratio of ten women to each man. Now, wouldn't that necessitate the abandonment of the so-called monogamous sexual relationship, I mean, as far as men were concerned?
