@davepl1968 Nice history lesson.
That being said as per the usual OS/2 - OS/2 WARP gets no respect .
OS/2 offered advanced preemptive multitasking features before 95 and NT, as the core OS/2 project began with a focus on multitasking since inception in the mid-1980's.

@davepl1968 Everytime I watch one of your videos I realize how little I know about how my PC.

@davepl1968 The Amiga operating system was truly amazing for it's time.
Dave :
Q) Was there a limitation within the OS that it could only run on single processors ?
Does that limitation still exist in the later versions of Amiga OSs ?
English

@davepl1968 this kind of made me more curious about FreeRTOS than anything... like sometimes i'm using a computer i want the comptuer to be ONLY running one software (playing a game or running music software, for example) and that is almost (completely?) impossible with modern OS

@davepl1968 Great summary Dave. You slammed the tutorial and the history into under 10 minutes while calling out some of the giants who's shoulders we stand on today. Enjoyed it!

@davepl1968 Brilliant.
Thanks, Dave.

@davepl1968 No nonsense delivery with straight facts. I wish more people was like this.

@davepl1968 Amazing video! Im somewhat confused about one thing though, couldnt single core programming also be considered concurrent, since threads share memory and so race conditions (and deadlocks) are also possible.
English

@davepl1968 Was in a PNC branch installing new cisco gear and they had a old card punch reader just sitting still plugged in and on... like a forgotten accessory..
English

@davepl1968 Great presentation;
though concurrency management is my bread and butter, I learned a few things here;
thanks!

@davepl1968 The cutscene at 5:28 end with child being crushed by a rock 🤣
English

@davepl1968 I did it in 1985 on an 8085 for enhancing our application development on the system, so no longer need of eprom brurning was replaced by downloading the app...
English

@davepl1968 The Tandy CoCo and other 8-bit machines could also do multi-user/multitasking with Microware OS-9.
English

@davepl1968 Reminds me when I learned about PLCs, the instructor told us it was basically a real-time-time sharing cpu. It's one level above assembly programming, but not by much.
English

@davepl1968 so your telling me that my computer was a windows this whole time and the cpu was doing in the RAM?? I didn't know.
English

@davepl1968 Great video and excellent timing!
I just had my first week on an Operating Systems course which touches on this very subject and we're having a lab which will involve modifying the scheduler on a Minix 3 VM. 😄
English

@davepl1968 Finally, hope you will keep posting more videos 👏
