Sure but then the priorities without the electoral college would just be the 7 most populated battleground states, which is just as arbitrary. And yeah, the winner take all is super detrimental to the system as a whole, Nebraska and Maine are the only ones that proportionally allot their electoral votes based on their populations vote. Every state should be required to follow suit.

i've been seeing rounds of vastly undeserved hate for veritasium here, which is so painful to see i have to speak up. the binary brained see vc = bad and unanimously dogpile onto the very few remaining high quality, educational youtube channel, without getting the full context. he has been working solo for the past few years, and had to give up family time for it. he found a way to sustain the channel without him burning out. this is extremely valid and logical for anyone in his shoes. you consume the content *for free*, probably using an adblocker and without paying youtube premium, yet you expect him to be able to do the work of maintaining a 10m+ channel pumping out high quality 40min+ videos ON ITS OWN while ALSO taking care of his family. how entitled must you be to have such a blindsided opinion?

@Darsam12_ @Miazmaic It's also less functional and on the verge of pension collapse. The Nordics have better growth and are wealthier, which is why they have higher HDI than France, which is lower than the US. I love France, it's my favorite EU nation, but yall need to adopt the Nordic model ASAP.

@RightWingCope @TwinkRegimer We know statistically that hospitals in the US charge way more compared to peer nations. That's b/c peer nations with UHC allow gov to negotiate prices. US doesn't. OP is right in that it does begin with hospitals abusing monopoly power and overcharging, not insurance.

@TwinkRegimer The accounting you see here is not even remotely close to what the hospital would charge a cash customer. The insurance company never actually pays this much. It’s not that the amounts are entirely made up but the majority of the insurance’s burden is settled via write offs

Why are hospitals never blamed for charging insane amounts? It's always insurance companies that are blamed for some reason

@YIMBYLAND I’m very torn on this issue because we see properties in east Austin that was historically very Mexican and the neighborhood was cheap. Folks now get priced out because their property tax bill may increase. Prop 13 would protect that individual from getting kicked out.
