I’ve been using the “product engineer” for over a year, and I wouldn’t bucket them with slop cannons. The diff: Product engineers ship working software - today they are generally customer facing engineers, but increasingly coming out of product roles. Slop cannons are the leadership team, all of them including the CEO, they build vision and prototypes that guide the team. This is not working deployable software. Then the rest kick in as Rx’d above for security, performance, quality, and economic feasibility.
