So... Blackpool North. My lord the rumours were true. 8 RPOs at the platform, 1 asked to see my ticket, decides to claim that it was dated for tomorrow just to panic me and only when he gets a reaction... let's me go. Great introduction to the place 🤣

GBRf source says it has an excess of drivers "Winning the seasonal stuff is what has knackered us up. Having to TUPE over the staff from DB was all very well in the autumn, but now the season is over there are drivers and ground staff sitting around doing very little."

I note Brent Crude has risen again and currently standing at $111 🛢️ Also cars queuing along Queens Road in Norwich to fill up at Sainsbury’s ⛽️ That might just be a Friday thing however.

It's all happening on today's @LNER 09.08 Dundee to King's Cross. A hen party has invaded the quiet coach!

On 23rd March 2026, Japan launches the world's first freight-only Shinkansen, converting a former passenger bullet train into a high-speed cargo carrier by removing all seats to maximize storage space. A total game changer for freight transport.

As the former Gulf superhighway via Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha struggles to reopen, one-way economy fares UK-Australia have reached £2,000. Qantas is pivoting capacity from domestic and Pacific routes to Europe. An extra 400 seats a day from Paris and Rome. independent.co.uk/travel/news-an…

Usual story, 4 mins to ko, crew on board in the warm, doors still closed. Passengers shivering on the draughty platform. @northernassist @TVLRUG

@greateranglia Serious question borne out of frustration. Why, when the lines are shut every weekend for engineering work, don’t you coordinate that with tree cutting to help prevent this sort of preventable disruption?

ℹ️Update 16:41: ❗Following a fallen tree damaging the overhead electric wires earlier today between #Colchester and Manningtree the line towards Ipswich has now reopened. Train services running through these stations are returning to normal but some services have been cancelled, delayed or revised. Normal services will be provided as soon as possible. A fallen tree has damaged the overhead electrical wires between Colchester and Manningtree earlier and resulted in a small line side fire. Essex Fire Brigade and Network Rail response teams have attended allowing all lines to re-open. Trains have been disrupted. We are now in the process of restoring trains back to the timetable, but some services may still be delayed or cancelled while we do this.
