@Computers2121 @bboev8 You are missing the point completely: Keep it vague. set that expectation right away. You could say “just outside/inside”, but can be a slippery slope. it’s cool to be nice to the catcher but don’t be too nice. they will abuse it.

If you’re umpiring HS baseball or softball and a catcher respectfully asks you where a pitch missed at and your response is to bark back at them with “I’m back here and I can see it better than you can.” I’d say you should probably find a different hobby from 4:30-6:30pm

@runyandy @coachdeesmith No kidding, I’m tired of getting emails from teachers that I need to discipline someone because of something that happened in class. Your class isn’t my watch, take care of it yourself. 99% of the time it’s the same behavior as non athletes anyway.

What if nobody played travel ball until after Little League at 13? Less burnout? Fewer arm injuries? Or does it slow development? Not for everyone—but maybe it works for some. Thinking outside the box. What do you think? I think I know the answer for most.

@yousuckass63590 @blip_tm House hold of 6. Typically not home before 9. Ten were lucky to have the kids feed and in bed. I’d strongly consider a robot that could fold out laundry

@blip_tm House hold of 5, and laundry is pretty easy. You just have to do it. Anyone thay says otherwise is legitimately coping. Machines wash and dry it, folding and putting laundry away is the easiest chore. Skill issue through and through.

Many teachers pursue master's degrees because their districts position them as the clearest path to earn a higher salary. @NCTQ found 90% of large districts still incentivize teachers to earn master’s degrees despite research showing they don’t make teachers more effective. We shouldn’t be encouraging teachers to take on debt for credentials that aren’t guaranteed to make them better at teaching in the first place.

Graduate degrees in medicine, law and pharmacy generally have the highest return on investment, a report found. By contrast, advanced degrees in social work and psychology generally do not pay off financially. wapo.st/4s33F04

Serious question for my fellow American educators: Do we actually believe TRS (Teacher Retirement System) will look the same, or even exist, in another 20 years?

@SeePalms @FixingEducation Yeah we don’t have to pay those. 2k for high school softball, baseball, middle school softball and baseball. That covers the city’s upkeep and maintenance. Not bad at all.

Should schools in America run sports programs, or should local communities take them over like in parts of Europe? This wouldn’t eliminate sports, just shift them to club systems and free up school resources for academics. Would this be better for students?

For spring break my 16 year old is camping in the mountains with his friends. Some of the family are acting like I basically fed him to a bear. Fellow parents, would you let your generally very responsible and capable kid camp without adults?

You could literally: - Buy a $12,000 car cash. - Pay $0/month. - Insure it for $100/month. - Drive it for 6 years. Why aren't people doing this?!

@wjeffpetty It's common in every league across the country to play "real" baseball rules starting at 9U. Except for Little League rules, which are strange, no leads, no stealing, etc. not real baseball. Not sure why the "not real" baseball rules league "Little League" is most popular....

Excuse my ignorance on this. What year did we start letting 9 year olds take leads & steal bases? When we were 12 foot had to be on the base. Stealing at 9 years old & taking leads might be the dumbest thing to date I have seen on a baseball field at any level.

@Seth_3773 Think that’s bad? The local HS coach can’t even throw a baseball. He’s been coaching his son since LittleLeague then got the HS job because he was the only one who applied.

Apparently, Nats coaches are now using tennis rackets instead of fungos to hit fly balls to their outfielders. This is really the point in baseball, where you’ve gotta sit there and go holy crap. We need more baseball people and less nerds teaching this game.

Many people genuinely believe teachers have an “easy job” with short hours, summers off, and great benefits. And yet, over the past 7 years, we’ve seen record numbers of teachers leave the profession while fewer people are choosing to enter it. Why leave such an ‘easy job’? 🙄

@FixingEducation If people understood how expensive high school athletics is , they would agree with this . A single softball game costs 400-600 just in officials and permits and faculty (not including coaches ) . It’s a racket all around .

Losing baseballs during a game might be the most underrated frustration in H.S. baseball. Not cheap. Adds up fast. Foul ball… gone. Warm-up ball… gone. Start with a bucket— finish half empty. Can anyone relate?
