This will be my pinned tweet, and is simply an exercise in gratitude. No form or rules; I will tweet about things I am grateful for and keep them here so that I can look back on them from time to time.

@RyeNotBerben That’s about 22.9 years longer than I would last if I went that route. Congrats to you; very nicely done.

@LegKickNationOG I dropped absolute bombs when I was 7 years old, and it was pretty fun.

If you coach early youth baseball, and you tell kids: DON'T hit the ball in the air because they're automatic outs DON'T try to hit homeruns. DO hit balls on the ground to 3B because you'll get to 1B more often. You are legit crushing the sport. Getting kids to "want to come back tomorrow" is YOUR ONLY ROLE. My 7 year old doesn't want to go back tomorrow. I don't blame him. You failed.

I just filed a tax return in which my wife and I owed had a federal tax liability of $41,000. Neat that we earn enough for that to happen, but damn if that doesn’t sting a bit.

@profplum99 The “rising tide” argument requires you to already have a boat. That’s a damn good line.

@midtown_rob I would not bet big on my fellow Floridians making rational choices. But good luck.

It’s frustrating for a moment on this app when you see people intentionally acting like a trash. But then you remember that it’s because they are being incentivized to act that way, whether they believe it or not. That’s when you stop feeling frustrated and start feeling sad.

@modestproposal1 One data point: My wife and I closed on our first home two days ago. I’ve never even heard of Homes.com and it never once came up in any search or conversation while we were looking for places.

To contextualize Costar spending $5B to build Homes.com, think of that as venture funding for a startup. Trulia, Zillow and Redfin combined raised less than $300M in VC funds and in total raised ~$2.1B in equity. And Homes is basically a non-entity.
modest proposal@modestproposal1

Costar continuing its exercise in insanity, guiding to homes dot com breakeven by YE 2029, with total burn of ~$5B to build a third tier portal. @DanielSLoeb1 recently said "Activism without proxy fights is like 'Catholicism without hell" so we'll see if he meant it

Remember the arguments from Jay Bila and the like. “The money is there so it’s only fair to pay!!” But nobody has read Hazlitt. The unseen consequences significantly outweigh the seen benefits. And now it’s too late. Schools are having to send staff with a fundraising can to hope to compete.

ASU AD Graham Rossini’s thoughts on Kenny Dillingham’s calling for a $20 million donation to ASU football: “If someone wants to write a $20 million check, l’m all for it. I’d love to find those people. But more importantly, when you look at almost 700,000 ASU alums all over the world. There’s almost a million people that have attended this university. That’s where a little bit can start to go a long way.” @FOX10Phoenix

@LegKickNationOG Money flowing to college athletes is just so weird to me. Like, you are a professional but you also have to study for a philosophy midterm? None of it makes sense to me, but I’m an out-of-touch old-timer.

As a former D1 student-athlete, I really loved the “student” part of it. And I loved competing my ass off WITH the same dudes AGAINST the same dudes for several years. There was pride in the name on the front of the jersey just like there was with the name on the back. Now 🤷

@arpitrage @TheStalwart Us big fellas are more naturally confident and less materialistic, leading to less “retail therapy”. We don’t need to buy as much stuff so there are more XXLs left in the store.
