This article shows that NMES can be effectively used in stroke patients to treat shoulder subluxation. #PT582 #AJ pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28343442/

@Riley_shae98 As far as ethical issues regarding Russian e-stim, there don’t seem to be any as this is largely a therapeutic modality. Inhibiting the use of this could be detrimental to those athletes attempting to recover from injury. #PT582 #RI

Here’s a study that showed improvements in achilles tendinitis after injection of platelet-rich-plasma. What’s interesting is it had a moderate improvement in chronic issues up to 4 years later. #PT582 #AS ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

Here’s an article that shows heavy dosing of creatine supplementation can be harmful if the individual has current or a history of renal issues. #PT582 #KD pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19124889/

This article shows that acute aerobic exercise has a noticeable affect on BDNF, a key component in neuroplasticity and depression. However, the systematic review was not able to show a significant change with resistance training. #PT582 #KJ link.springer.com/article/10.216…

@MorganDrew16 Any intervention that works to encourage functional movement would be recommended. These could be immobilizing with splinting or casting, or work on movement specific aspects with general movement training or strengthening exercises. #PT582 #MD

@EmilioA43040616 The article shows a greater increase in running performance with increased specificity over the cross training. With this, is there a line to walk where both running is increased while adding components such as weight lifting to counter the increased injury risk? #PT582 #DS

#PT582 #DS As DPTs, I think we possess the clinical knowledge to purposely shift rehab away from their specialization if the intent is to prevent future injury. We could even argue this is cross-training. This article dives deeper into cross-training

@TateTsingine I love your point about finding the correct timing of specialization that leads to success without burnout. There’s no concrete time where we can definitely say okay drop everything and do this one activity. It’s totally different with each individual. #PT582 #DS

#PT582 #DS the body needs for growth. The difficult part is finding the correct timing and balance of specialization that leads to success without burnout. pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/138/3/…

@JacquelineTorpy Should all planes of ROM still be strengthened even if that leads to decreased performance in the specific sport? #PT582 #DS

@SterrettCarolyn I completely agree with you. With the PT only being called in to work on an injury, is there a proper way to introduced generalized strengthening while also addressing the current overuse injury? #PT582 #DS

@Riley_shae98 Those are great examples Riley. Are there any sports where it may actually be detrimental to performance to incorporate all directions of movement? #PT582 #DS

@MichChristian5 Is it then possible to walk the tightrope between developing an overuse injury incorporating proper muscle balance? Or should muscle balance be the prime target of the PT while they work with the individual? #PT582 #DS

#PT582 #DS This systematic review shows that general strengthening decreases the risk of both acute and overuse injuries in adolescents. Adolescents may think that specificity is crucial for performance, but muscle balance is crucial for injury prevention. bit.ly/3k223Cd

@manderslat Is there an age range where sport specific specialization would be more appropriate? Or should the individual try to maintain over activities even into adulthood? #PT582 #DS
English

@AnnaReiserSPT Do you think that cross training would be more sport specific? For example common cross training for runners are cycling and swimming. They work different muscles group but share the commonality of endurance and maintaining Vo2 Max. #PT582 #DS
English

@ColleenDrisSPT Do you think education and injury prevention injuries would be enough? Or should there be a total movement away from early specialization in general? #PT582 #DS
English

@rainataylorrr I completely agree! Sometimes it can be perfectly okay to specialize early, it is just imperative in those situations to work on all the compounding motions that make up the overall activity. #PT582 #DS

While I think its important to be well rounded as an athlete, overuse injuries often result from poor performance or technique, malalignment, or muscle imbalances. So sometimes sport specific rehab may be the best option for prevention! pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3901173/ #PT582 #DS
