@ptprotagonist Obviously not. Even the ones I truly dislike like XIII and the Remakes have some value, so they're not 0/10 bad.
I think people use thar 20+ years of no good games as argument to say they're not as good as they used to be.
Which is outrageous, I know. But those were the days...

@mochimitsu7 See, I've actually played bad games. Horrible unplayable movie tie-ins. Sesame Street simulators. Sonic during the 2000's. Resident Evil Umbrella Corps.
The games I listed are nowhere the level of stinkery as those. XD

@adawongsn1fan Because if you like the new ones, which are the fewer games, you really don't like Final Fantasy. Feels more like a tourist who likes games post-XIII, which all are objectively inferior to the classics IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, and X.
For less money you get better games.

one thing i’ve noticed from this getting so much attention, is that the majority of the fandom is super supportive abt someone new getting into the games, but there’s always that little few that are pissy a NEW PLAYER is starting with the more modern games 😭

FF7 fans who are saying the remake series is not a good entry point are either just purists who hates the whole existence of FF7R or they think the remake series is a sequel to the OG game which is not. I played Remake first and had no problems then went on to play OG.

I don’t have an opinion on this matter, but can any FF fan explain why VII Remake isn’t the best entry point? I’m genuinely curious… PS: I’m playing the OG game in between Mass Effect sessions.

@Scratch_Point_Z It's been their strategy since part 1. Baiting the audience and switching stuff.
We're 2/3 of the Remake project by this point, and the story has been mostly changed. Themes are changed. Character motivations and plot has been changed. By this point, it failed as a Remake.

Look, whether one enjoys this remake project or not, the games are definitely not "true to the original" Final Fantasy VII due to the deviations they made from the original story. It's already been announced that Bone Village is removed from part 3.
There's just no need for Square Enix to say this when it's obviously not true. The audience is already split on this, anyone open to the new path the remakes have taken is likely already in until the end at this point.

@Critical_Scribe That's Yoshida's biggest fault. I guess having 2 million players in FFXIV affects his ability to see beyond his conformity.

@mochimitsu7 I would have just loved it if he didn’t approach it with the XIV mindset of trying to make it “accessible” to everyone because it really felt TOO dumbed down and restrained as a result.

Eh, I’d say overall the major criticisms such as empty world design, poor combat encounters (not system, encounters), and shallow systems are spot on.
There are also quite a bit of writing issues I have with it, especially in the third act.
It’s a 6/10 objectively.
In terms of how much I subjectively enjoyed it?
9/10, which honestly makes the fumbles feel more painful because with a few tweaks and a focused vision we’d have a solid objectively 8-9/10 game on our hands.

If you read the original thread, FFVII Remake constantly being pushed as a sequel by people has done so much damage to its branding that players either refuse to play it out of principal of it being a sequel or they advise new players not to bother with it because its not an entry point, its a poor sequel entry not worth their time. Not many people care about the new players when it comes to this game unfortunately because it absolutely is an amazing experience, different yes, but amazing nonetheless and is absolutely a great entry point into Final Fantasy and a great way to play the story of FFVII specifically in a modern production.
These games should make you excited to try out the OG and see the differences, because its a Remake told differently. It’s not forcing new players to know the OG and Compilation in order for them to understand what they are playing a sequel to.
There’s elitist OG player mentality in the fandom that cares little for the new players, and I don’t like it one bit, again check the original thread in this QRT to see what I mean

Hamaguchi seems like a well-intentioned guy unlike Johnson. I just think he's not capable enough. He doesn't understand what Final Fantasy is.

And no, neither Rebirth nor XVI won GOTY, did they. They didn't break the 9+m sales mark, or developed good reputation among their fanbase. E33 did. Don't be a biased fanboy

It's a hell of a sequel.
I've never seen a sequel repeat 97% of the events from its supposed prequel before.
A sequel by definition is supposed to advance a story , not repeat it.
