Earlier this month, I decided to sunset @CafeSocialio Mixer as I wasn't able to create traction for the product. To process the experience and help other entrepreneurs prevent some of my mistakes, I reflected and started to capture the learnings in a series of posts. 1/x #buildinpublic

could try: “thank you for offering me this neurotoxin. I’ll pass bc it shrinks brain hippocampal grey matter volume and accelerates white-matter loss; impairs neurogenesis and elevates neuro-inflammatory markers. It fragments REM and slow-wave sleep, making me depressed, grumpy and slow. But please don’t let that interfere with your enjoyment.”

You want a true Build in Public ? Here’s a raw one 🧵 🚨 We thought we’d found our NYC launchpad - turns out it was a health-hazard money pit. Illegal-ish basement housing + floods, walls with potential blooms of mold, a founder coughs up blood, and 8 hours after the ER we’re told to grab our stuff & get out by 3pm today. Details below 👇 @Airbnb @bchesky

It gets better the older they get. - Plan restaurant visits that align with nap time - Get the energy out before the restaurant visits - Bring activities and entertain - Start to establish routines (e.g. drawing before food arrives and tablet or phone afterwards) - Phone and tablet One important factor is to not feel guilty for whatever works for you.

11 month old son has a ton of energy and is very social. Impossible to take him to any form of sit down meal. Do folks just not eat out for five years or are there any hacks that keep him less wild?

@Trace_Cohen @realEstateTrent Hotel with camp are definitely worth it! Our daughter went a few ours per day. Even that is great to get a small break. Been to Club Med and Paradisus. Both have the option and we can recommend them.

@NathanFlurry @meganreyno @AndreiDavid @infradotnyc @paulgb Happy to chat. Definitely some similarities. One of the biggest differences is probably that in our case we own both sides, if you do an on-prem deployment at another enterprise, you have limited permissions in that environment.

.ing and .meme domains are available to buy starting today. Can confirm that at least Namecheap is carrying them. Some are expensive, some are listed at just the registration fee (like $12). So it's a good time to search for short domains.

I've hosted 20+ dinner parties this year with 12+ people at each one Here are 10 things I've learned 1. Assigning seats has ALWAYS lead to people having more fun 2.People from different backgrounds is more fun than say all tech people 3. Unstructured discussions are more enjoyable than curated questions 4. People will always bail day of 5. If you say 7:30pm start 0-20% show up by 7:35, 50% by 7:45, 95% by 8:00pm, last 5% can show up an hour late 6. No one really cares about the quality of the food if you invite good people: pizza had the same outcome as Fogo de Chao 7. Having an introduction, then opening question, then having people switch seats ~50% of the way through made them more fun 8. How much people drink is directly correlated with how late people stay and how much fun it is 9. People will drink more if you open the wine bottles on the table before people arrive 10. One person can ruin the entire vibe If you're in NYC and want to come to one let me know :)

Best of luck. re 3/ My wife is an Executive and Mental Fitness Coach. One of the programs she uses (on mental fitness) could be great for the two of you. I participated earlier this year and it helped me improve my mental health a lot. DM me here or in the indieww slack if you want further details.

Okay, here we go After various conversations and reflection Me and @euboid have settled our differences and are continuing to work on our SaaS! #buildinpublic But we're making some immediate changes 1/ We're closing our work Slack which is where most of our low-quality, high-stress conversations happened. Instead we're focusing on listing tasks and comments on @linear 2/ I am going to make some time for my side projects like Roast My Landing Page, and exploring new ideas. This allows me to reduce risk and use what I'm learning on Senja on my other products. Wilson has the same opportunity. 3/ We're both going to get coaches. We know working through a tough spot drives personal growth. We're going to find coaches to help us. Recommendations welcome 4/ We're slowing down even at the cost of growth. I'd love 'boat money' but the work needs to fun and rewarding. This also makes it easier for me to continue being nomadic, something that's important to me 5/ We're moving on. We both made some really stupid mistakes. We're accepting them, and moving forward with a fresh start. We've both put in actual work to reflect, forgive and actively move forward 6/ I am prioritising my physical and mental health. My new airbnb has a gym and pool to help me get my health back on track 7/ We're squashing bugs. @euboid is fixing all the little things we've neglected that have compounded over time and slowed our pace. 8/ We're introducing regular retros. To celebrate wins, address issues and discuss opportunities. 9/ We're giving back. We want to find a way to add a greater purpose to Senja and our work. We're looking at ways we can give back to the community. If anyone knows anything about donating a split of revenue to charity, please reach out That's it. The hard work continues Various people helped us get to this point, and many many others reached out. Thank you.
