I kinda agree with him. Last year I interviewed some NYSC candidates to serve at my workplace and I saw the kinda graduates we produce this days. Graduate who couldn’t explain their theses with confidence. A petroleum engineering graduate (2/1) that couldn’t calculate interest and couldn’t use Exel. Off course one was begging me to consider but I couldn’t because I gave him more time than every candidate for the test, yet he didn’t do well. He wasn’t looking like someone that could learn fast on the job. The 3 candidates we took are doing well and they get paid over 170k + accommodation. With their government allowance they’re taken home over 245k monthly.

Consensus thinking from the event is that our leadership recruitment process must change for democracy to thrive. The recruitment must be based on competence, capacity, compassion, character, and commitment to serving the well-being of the people. And for it to thrive, our institutions must be strong, independent, and accountable to the people. We must rebuild trust in our institutions, restore discipline in Leadership, and ensure that governance translates into measurable improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
