@LibZionistNerd @zdch @besttrousers You're describing a scenario in which both are equally bad and then saying that the boardroom is preferable because, I guess, at least someone got something positive out of it? Removing a profit incentive will not result in more unfunded procedures.

To a point someone (I think @besttrousers) made earlier today, a lot of political disagreements really do boil down to a misunderstanding of fact. I think a lot of M4A people think if you passed the policy, literally no one would get denied claims or services.

@MistakeCanadian i mean it's the same question, really, just depends how you phrase it. something like: "if you are red, how *low* would the threshold have to get for you to switch to blue; if you are blue, how *high* would the threshold have to get for you to switch to red?"

really, the more interesting question is "at what threshold would you switch from blue to red?"
and i don't think it's a moral question as much as it is a question about optimism, your views of the rest of humanity, etc

here's the thing about this thought experiment: the % threshold where everyone is saved (50% here) is *crucial* to the decision, yet very few people focus on it at all!

@Jayseki I think it's a different question because red is always the safe option. Blue never becomes the perfectly safe option aside from at 0% on your model.

@dyingscribe Try distilling it down to the moral precedent instead of extrapolating beyond the scope of the question. Is the individual morally obligated to endanger themselves to shield their peers from the consequences of their own choices?

First, think about the people who survive. Then, think about the societal effects of the choices and the death
then, think about the downstream effects of that
first-order thinking is: press red, live.

@eternallydxmned I always assumed a urinal was cheaper than a toilet and thus it was a cost saving measure rather than urinals being in some way preferable. I've never wanted a urinal in my own home.
