I think people forget that, especially for Disney, merchandising is a HUGE part in a film’s profitability. Even if the movie doesn’t make 2.5x its budget, or the $600M some people are, for some reason, claiming it needs to make, the merch sales will likely make the difference

STAR WARS is still massive. It just does not feel like one audience anymore. Nielsen says U.S. viewers watched more than 33 billion minutes of STAR WARS content in 2025. The movies still led overall viewing, followed by the live-action shows, then animation. But the generational split is where it gets interesting. Gen Alpha and Baby Boomers are watching THE MANDALORIAN. Gen Z is watching THE CLONE WARS. Millennials and Gen X are watching ANDOR. That is impressive reach. It is also probably part of the problem. STAR WARS used to feel like one big myth everyone could enter from different places. Now it feels like a brand sliced into audience segments. This show is for kids. This one is for adults. This one is for animation fans. This one is for prestige TV viewers. This one is for people who still want the original trilogy feeling. That might work on Disney+. But theatrically, it creates a harder problem. After seven years of training audiences to watch STAR WARS at home, Disney now has to convince people that a STAR WARS movie is worth leaving the house for again. That is why THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU is such an interesting test. It is not just a movie. It is Disney trying to turn a Disney+ audience back into a theatrical audience. The franchise is reaching everyone. But it may no longer feel like it belongs to everyone.

Might be an unpopular opinion on here but replacing a concert with a speech is lame and boring. Just go out and get real musicians to play. Don’t cancel the concert just because a bunch of washed up old has-beens canceled. There are hundreds of artists out there who might not be famous but would absolutely leap at the chance to play on a stage like this.

It’s strange watching what has happened to film criticism, but honestly, we allowed it to happen. Studios allowed the fate of movies to be reduced to a Fresh or Rotten score while, at the same time, opening the door for virtually anyone to enter the space without any real standards or requirements. Today, anyone can wake up and decide they want to be a film critic, and I believe that has fundamentally changed the industry. I also strongly believe that while critics can absolutely be fans, they still have a responsibility to be critical, even of filmmakers, actors, and franchises they love. The job is not to blindly support everything from people you admire. It’s to evaluate the work honestly. A good critic should be able to say when something doesn’t work, explain why it doesn’t work, and back up that opinion with thoughtful analysis. If you can’t be honest about a bad film because you like the people involved, then you’re acting more as a fan than a critic.
