@elektromorr @xwanyex @MattBruenig Imagine you are living in a world where the state owns all housing. Is your argument that anyone has the right to come into your bedroom at any time?

The problem with this is that it’s very obviously not correct. One presumes that we’d still have ordinary policing, the kind of policing that applies to literally everything else in life and is therefore not unique to housing. If we still had any kind of law and order at all, housing would very obviously not trade for zero dollars.

@Sheesh_barak @TheStalwart @xwanyex Correct. One way of putting it is that you don't actually buy land. You buy a voucher that you can redeem with the state at any time to have it violently exclude others from it. This "violence voucher" is what is valuable. The land, absent a violent voucher, would trade for ~$0.

Clearly there are many cases in which law enforcement escalates to deadly force too quickly. But if a man who has slashed 3 people is advancing on police, refusing orders to drop his machete, officers aren’t obliged to risk becoming the 4th or 5th victim by trying to disarm him.

Does NYPD know how to disarm people without going straight to lethal force? Follow-up question: Has anyone else noticed that NYPD consistently reacts to a person with a knife by shooting them??

@BorisBartlog @Halalcoholism If you haven't figured out the pattern yet, what would their reaction be if it was a white guy who just wounded some elderly minorities with a sword?

@Dystrophical @SethWestmore @ThatEricAlper New York calls their criminal court “Supreme Court” for some reason, and law and order was set in New York so it’s not hard to see how someone could make that mistake

@EtTuBrutus2022 @uncledoomer It would take 47 weeks to get your search area down to 1m^2 on earth’s land, or 49 weeks if you included the ocean, 41/43 to narrow it down to a medium sized house

@EtTuBrutus2022 @uncledoomer I was off in my calculation of how big the country could be because I was thinking linerally, but it could be anywhere on earth and you’d be able to find it with several weeks to spare

@bballbreakdown Define worse? Worse for him as a coach? I mean sure, not fatal in and of itself because these things happen sometimes though he has not exactly covered himself in glory this season. It (and many other things) does mean it’s not an egregious example of tanking though

@LinkofSunshine i worked as a manager at Wawa for 15 years where most employees walked 4-8 miles in a shift, and everybody who works there for a long time looks young for their age. you can't walk too much, that's literally not a thing. the human body is optimized for walking.

@SorrentinoSean @MorlockP Because that’s what he’s effectively doing. It doesn’t matter if he opens the doors first or not, because the opening is not random.

@SorrentinoSean @MorlockP The intuitive solution is correct if Monty Hall opens the door at random, but he doesn’t. He ALWAYS opens a door with the bad prize. To piggy back on the 100 doors example, what if he didn’t let you open any door and said ok you can have either the one you picked or all 99
