It's becoming very clear that a transit agency that is run and operated by politicians who are playing double duty as politicians scared to piss off NIMBYs and as transit planners is a very VERY flawed system
lej@_lej44

“The critics mainly consisted of Lafayette Square residents who oppose Metro tunneling underneath their Mid-City historic district” Utter insanity that ~30-50ppl can delay a regional mass transit line for something objectively false. Tunneling 80-120ft below em’ does NOTHING.

This is exactly why Paul writes that the foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of men. Sometimes I try to imagine how fatal a mistake it would have been if God had given Israel the warrior-king messiah they desperately wanted. That would have been the most amateur move in history. Jesus would have been one of many strong men, and strong men are the most perishable thing on earth. Strength intrinsically depreciates. Every generation redefines it upward. Improved technology means faster and cheaper ways to kill more people, and there will always be someone more powerful coming behind you. The power model has a ceiling. It always has. God chose differently. Jesus did not conquer by force. He was executed by the people with the force. And 2000 years later he is still being followed. His teachings still shape ethics, civilization, and the moral imagination of billions of us. He stands in a class of his own not in spite of the non-violence but precisely cos of it. Juxtapose him against the most vicious warlord in recorded history and he stands out. Juxtapose him against the most peaceful statesman alive today and he still stands out. Nothing touches him on either end of the spectrum. Durant who Bibi quotes was describing history, not eternity. Jesus said the meek shall inherit the earth and in doing so he was revealing a logic that runs deeper than any military strategy. The cross looked like defeat and foolishness to everyone watching. But in reality it was the most decisive victory ever recorded. God is amazing in his wisdom!

You also don’t walk out of college or university expecting to buy a new 4 bedroom house, two cars, boats, skidoos, etc. The reason you struggle is because you aren’t willing to wait and make do like we did. Your entitlement is causing you to struggle.
Bitcoin Teddy@Bitcoin_Teddy

Older generations say “we all struggled in our 20s.” No, you didn’t. You didn’t pay $3200 for rent and $10 for eggs. You didn’t graduate into $50K student debt and $0 job security. Gen Z isn’t dramatic. They’re drowning.

EXCLUSIVE: Groypers are NOT welcome, California GOP says. The party is instituting a "vetting process" on candidates to block the influence of far-right streamer Nick Fuentes within the party. New in @TheFP ⬇️ The nation's largest Republican party is the first to formally condemn Nick Fuentes and ensure candidates don’t follow his far-right ideology. A memo sent to local party leaders instructs them to “refrain from recruiting, supporting, or endorsing candidates” who “espouse,” “promote,” or “campaign” on Fuentes’s ideas. They said there was an "organized effort" from Groypers to infiltrate the party and take over from within. “The ideology is characterized as White Nationalist; hostile to constitutional, limited-government conservatism; highly critical of MAGA and President Trump; and opposing of the civil rights of women, gays, and racial minorities,” state party leaders wrote.

@constans there's nothing inherently trashy, dramatic, or salacious about polyamory tho? i mean the cut publishes a ton of articles about monogamous relationships that are just as, if not more, trashy, etc. the elizabeth gilbert "i tried to kill my drug addicted partner" as one example

I thought — and mostly still think— that articles on polyamory exist to satisfy our desire to read about trashy, dramatic, and salacious things we’d never do ourselves. BUT I’m starting to wonder if these articles aren’t part of someone’s desire to “normalize” these relationships

@canniballzx @nosilverv Spaces between words (at least in Greek and Latin) didn’t exist until somewhere between the 6th and 8th century. You couldn’t recognize a word by sight and see the beginning and ending, so the easiest way to read would be to carefully sound out each letter to recognize a word.

Reminder that EVERYTHING is an achievement: St. Augustine was shocked to find St. Ambrose reading *silently* (reading was then social and aloud) and private silent reading only really took off 700 years after in the 12 century.

@jeremykauffman Yup. It took 20 years to recover from Bush era and build a broad electoral coalition. Trump failed in office to solve any of the major problems. It may take another 20 years to recover -- by then, the waste, suffering, and damage inflicted will be supermassive.

‘They thought that sending Elon and a bunch of CS majors into the federal bureaucracy would demolish "The Cathedral," but these days the DOGE bros are getting deposed and Elon spends his hours commenting "Very Nice" on AI images of anime girls.’ x.com/nomads4pritzke…
Nomadic Warriors for Pritzker⚔️@Nomads4Pritzker

Correct! Their movement was led by a world-historic con man and all of the foot soldiers were too dumb and cretinous to accomplish their aims! Their big immigration push was sunk by nice Minnesotans who stood up for their neighbors! Kash Patel is having too much fun flying his Swiss girlfriend around to persecute their political enemies. They had no foreign policy vision, so neocons happily filled the vacuum. They thought that sending Elon and a bunch of CS majors into the federal bureaucracy would demolish "The Cathedral," but these days the DOGE bros are getting deposed and Elon spends his hours commenting "Very Nice" on AI images of anime girls. Now the Democrats are going to sweep Congress, and spend the next two years hauling all of Trump's cronies in and raking them over hot coals. While this happens, the lame-duck president will be too occupied picking out trim for his ballroom to bother himself with their protection, or, for that matter, with tending to the political project he ostensibly set in motion. The movement will continue, all right, but it will be the purview of increasingly marginal dum-dums and grifters huffing the exhausted fumes of Trumpism as the bored public slowly drifts away. All of this happened for a simple reason: the far right doesn't know how anything works. If the movement had a real understanding of the mechanisms of government or the material basis for liberalism, maybe they would have had a shot at implementing durable right-wing authoritarianism in this country. Things certainly looked like they were trending in that direction on Jan 20, 2025. The wind was very much at their back! It didn't go that way, though, because the movement ran aground on the problem that Umberto Eco identified 30 years ago: "Fascist are condemned to lose wars because they are constitutionally incapable of objectively evaluating the force of the enemy." If you live in a dreamworld of conspiracy, you will spend all of your energy punching at shadows, and none of it landing haymakers. But they can't land the knockout blow because they can't identify what "the left" really is or what powers it. This is why this guy's schtick is so funny and so representative: the libertarian who always agrees with the authoritarian right. "Crush the left" - Hayek would be proud! It's emblematic of the pervasive self-delusion that has led them into the wilderness. If crushing the left was ever the goal of their leaders, they would have brought along at least a few serious people. But they didn't, and the movement will spend what remains of its stamina building the Big Beautiful Ballroom: MAGA's sarcophagus.
