Trump's absolutely collapsing with GOP leaning independents per WaPo & Pew polls. He got ~91% of their vote in 2024. Just 53% approve now. That 53% is down too from 73% approval he had with them in term 1 at this point. House GOP struggling too on 2026 House ballot with them

@marcportermagee I work in a school that de facto doesn’t have a cell phone ban because the students verbally abuse the staff if you take them so they stopped taking them. Are they actually being enforced I wonder

We are clearing the basic threshold of can these bans reduce cell phone use. That alone probably justifies their continued rollout. Probably too earlier to expect big gains in achievement.

It’s hard to look at a college diploma conferred in the last decade and say it provides any value either as a vocational certificate or that one has been prepared for a rich ethical and intellectual life. So let’s all stop kidding ourselves and retvrn to 50s-level enrollment

Every millennial was sold college as a vocational school. I think I would agree that is not the real intention of college, but that’s what it’s become, that’s what all the trillions of dollars in subsidized student loans were built around, and that has to end if we admit to this

University leaders should push back on the assumption that it is their responsibility to prepare students for the workforce — instead of preparing them to have a rich ethical and intellectual life. Employers should be responsible for job training

Buddy, American public school districts routinely churn out hordes of students that cannot do basic algebra or reading by 12th grade. The typical student actually gains *zero* mathematical knowledge after 8th grade. Schools are already failing.

Right, if homeschooling is actually super high quality, then homeschooling families should not object to being evaluated, tested, and checked-in-on to make sure their kids are actually learning.

Trump's approval is consistently below 40% in polling averages now. That means the undecideds in generic ballot polls like this didapprove of him with near unanimity. Unless the GOP does very well with these voters, we will see a wide generic ballot margin in the end.

This is an issue with Iran at this point. Centcom has locked them up so tight Pentagon knows they’re losing internally. Their currency is depreciating 10-20% a *week*

@bdquinn I was in hs when Obama was president and honestly 2015-2016 might be a high water mark in my life for a lot of things. Now we have corruption in the White House so bad it would make gilded age presidents blush, extreme gerrymandering, out of control inflation , war in Iran

The thing about Obama's 2008 campaign is that he managed to convince just about all portions of the electorate that he was really aligned with them. See this Politico article tagging him as a centrist in the summer of 2008:

I do think the idea that Obama ran as a centrist in 2008 overstates things. He wasn't a wild-eyed radical, but the whole premise of his campaign, particularly the primary was we needed to go beyond Clintonian centrist triangulation.
