Many of the (older- +55) Republican voters and leadership still maintain a strong sense of ethics and fair play (based on their views of the Founding Fathers and the Bible). Serval people expressed to me the concern with redistricting was that about 25% of the registered voters in Indiana are Democrats- and that they should be represented in Congress. They would rather die on the moral high ground with their views intact than win to affect change. Indeed, many of these Republicans would rather be seen as aligned with Regan- even Pence- as a force for moral good; as both a leader of the country and free world. If they voted for Trump- and many did not, it was against the national Democratic Party. They often view Trump as immoral- for having affairs and for going through bankruptcy- and maintain similar views of his entire cabinet. The old guard is being phased out.
