Entirely agree. Refusal to introduce ID cards baffling. Britain in a deep sense is ungoverned.

The weird shadow of the mid-2000s debate on ID cards never ceases to amaze. With the need for reliable digital identification and the need to clamp down on the informal labour market, the case has never been stronger.

Interesting from Enzo. Kick-off times the issue (and a couple of venues like Miami). If Fifa is truly concerned about player welfare/quality of football it will have to move some kick-offs later - and that requires flexibility from European broadcasters who pay Fifa fortunes.

I want to move round the corner to a 3 bed house. It was 15k at the time I got my flat. Now it is 30k.

@ewangibbs OK, so abolish capital gains tax exemption on primary residence, replace it with an inflation relief. When you sell your primary residence, you pay CGT on any price increase above inflation.

A large portion of people in Britain think that they should be able to pass on huge unearned wealth accrued through surging property prices without paying any tax on it. It's a massive problem for a society where property ownership has become the defining feature of wealth.

What unearned wealth am I gaining when I sell a house and purchase a larger one in the same area? I'm actually worse off because the larger house has gained more money since I got mine.

Isn’t the whole point of inheritance tax on farms that they don’t get sold so they don’t realise their value or increase in value
We don’t however pay capital gains on our homes when we sell them or downsize even though this is unearned wealth through surging property prices as you put it
It seems you are not actually after a level playing field - getting rid of all inheritance may not be the solution but modernising they system makes sense and we can’t just create envy taxes for all of those who have things we are unlikely to have

These tweets will never end, will they? Once again, millions of votes are yet to be counted.
Current projections suggest by the time all the votes have been counted, turnout will be close to 2020. Harris will end up with around 76 million votes and Trump with around 78 million.

And the law gives you six months to do a permanent reinstatement.
