Running multiple projects locally is painful. localhost:3000, localhost:3001, localhost:8080... which one is which? One port conflict and your whole setup breaks. Portless by Vercel Labs fixes this cleanly. Instead of port numbers, you get stable named URLs: http://myapp.localhost:1355 http://api.myapp.localhost:1355 http://docs.myapp.localhost:1355 What it solves: • Port conflicts across projects • Cookie and storage bleeding between apps on different ports • "Wait, which tab is which?" confusion in monorepos • Git worktrees: each branch gets its own subdomain automatically Works with Next.js, Vite, Express, Nuxt, React Router, Angular, Expo. There's also an AI angle. Coding agents were hardcoding ports and getting them wrong. Named URLs mean your agent always knows exactly where to go. 3.8k stars. v0.5.2. Actively maintained by Vercel Labs. npm install -g portless portless run next dev That's it. github.com/vercel-labs/po…

your terminal in 4 upgrades: 1. ghostty — the terminal itself. fast, native, beautiful. finally one worth using. 2. tmux — sessions that survive anything. split panes, detach, come back later like nothing happened. 3. fish — autocomplete that actually works. syntax highlighting. no config needed. 4. starship — a prompt that shows you what matters (git branch, exit codes, env) without slowing you down. use: brew install tmux fish starship + ghostty .org your future self will thank you

@Re51221264 @TPnTexas @bee_fumo I'm sympathetic to Linux devs facing difficulties getting buggy driver or h/w errata workarounds discovered and implemented, while Windows due to MSFT market power has fixes/workarounds out of the box. Still, by 2006 I had to make a switch. I hope to use Linux again. Best distro?

@BrendanEich @Re51221264 @TPnTexas @bee_fumo Brendan, it’s time to go distro-hopping! And this is highly subjective. I’ve ran Arch, Omarchy, Fedora and Kubuntu and just Ubuntu with Gnome in the past year on my minipc. Start out with Gnome and try playing with a few in Gnome Boxes (smoothest virtualization app I’ve seen)

Justice for Cricket! I don’t talk about politics much, but my family adopted a dog from an aunt of a friend who wasn’t able to take care of him anymore. My family loves our doggy. Former secretary Noem should have returned the dog from where she got it rather than shooting it.

THE END. 15 segundos. Seedance 2.0 no solo hace vídeo. Hace fan service a escala industrial.

Considering the Rust-ification of Git… Many of you have suggested an alternative: Game of Trees (aka “Got”), from the @openBSD folks. And it is definitely worth a peek if you haven’t used it yet. - Compatible with Git repositories. - Written in C and portable with builds for a number of platforms (though the developers focus on openBSD compatibility as a priority). - No Rust. - No politics (at least none that I can find). - Focuses on “ease of use and simplicity over flexibility”. It’s been around for a few years now, and seems fairly mature. gameoftrees.org

@gonzalodelriov @AxelTalksFilm I remember that well. Batman and Robin was fine, Batman Forever was just too awful. A Batman movie filmed in our hometown ? Awesome. Schumacher just went too schmaltzy, too toyetic, too ridiculous on BF. And don’t get me started on that lame lapdog version of Bane.

@AxelTalksFilm Seeing BATMAN BEGINS on opening weekend was indeed the good insane. My friend @samgranieri and I walked out of the theatre chanting “Schumacher Sucks” ….What a time to be alive that 2005 year 😎

@dhh I have that machine at home. Im floored at how performant it is doing dev work for elixir / ruby / zig using Linux. And it’s amazingly cheap too. Thank you for the recommendation in the Omarchy docs.

@dhh Microsoft seems hell bent on shoving AI and copilot, plus that unwanted and invasive recall pile of excrement in every part of windows. I’m just going to tell relatives to install Ubuntu to keep their computers useful for longer and escape all that shit.

I setup a new Windows machine recently, and I couldn't believe what an obstacle course its become. macOS has been going downhill too, but Windows 11 is still the king of awful. Even if Linux hadn't improved by leaps and bounds lately, it would look amazing standing still.

Meathead "BBQ Hall of Famer, Hedonism Evangelist”
The trick is not to do this too long in advance. When salt gets wet from the meat, it starts to move deep into the meat, but it moves slowly because there is a lot of fat and protein in the way. And ionization moves slowly. So if you did this the night beforethe steak would be way too salty. But if you do it just before cooking the right amount of salt will penetrate.
