@crisandrews81 @BMLBod But you could argue this the other way around, if someone has been travelling all day to get here and then has to wait another hour thus disrupting their plans? It works both ways all the time that's the problem and hence why these awfully tight connections need to stop.

@ConductorAlbert @BMLBod But how far are those few people travelling? Several missed connections later and they could be a lot longer than 30 minutes late, or worse, miss the last train. 5 minutes connections shouldn’t exist… but if you retime one, you’ll lose another connection elsewhere etc.

The managing director of one state-owned TOC, holding another state-owned TOC to account over a branch line connection that really should’ve been maintained, is a good thing. Railway needs to pull together for passengers, not operational convenience. @greateranglia
Steve White@SteveWhiteRail

@greateranglia why didn’t you hold the Sudbury train at Marks Tey for the booked connection off the 18.02 from Liverpool Street?

@crisandrews81 @BMLBod But they are more frequent no? So rather than make a large group of people wait 1 hour you could make fewer people wait 30 mins? I also was advocating to retiming the trains as five or so minute connections just shouldn't exist in my view speaking as a mainline Guard 😅

@ConductorAlbert @BMLBod But the issue is it will arrive back at Marks Tey late and miss a connection to Ipswich. and miss a connection to Liverpool Street.

@BenDC_ Or they could just try thinking about I dont know, retiming the branch line to cope with this? As a Guard the number of times we miss a 5 minute booked connection at places is infuriating. 5 minute connections shouldn't be allowed if I worked in the planning area. 10 mins min imo

That is the managing director of Southeastern asking this; and he’s right. A dead end branch line with nothing to cross is appropriate to hold.

@crisandrews81 @BMLBod Oh wait correction I just looked at RTT and it had a 5 minute turnaround at the other end of the branch. Upon return it has 16 minutes so by the time it goes to form the 2001 should easily be back on time unless more stuff had gone wrong. My bad.

@crisandrews81 @BMLBod Not according to his other replies if you check his post. Pretty sure he said it had a 20 minute turn around so a 10 minute hold at best to allow customers across and to board wouldn't have caused a late backward working. He was dead right to call this out if that was the case.

@flowergirl_lon All I can say is as a Guard, I am so sorry you have to experience this. I always ensure I take care of anyone who needs assistance (not just WC users). I always ensure they know I am on the train and if for whatever reason assistance doesn't come for them I'll be there 😬

1/7 Yesterday I had to physically block a train to board it, then pull the emergency alarm to get off it. A normal Wednesday on Southern Rail. 🧵

@JrKroz @GWRHelp You also need to bare in mind people on your train might also need those stations who normally change at Bath for said stations. So if no other services coming from Westbury were running it needs to stop there regardless.

@GWRHelp Which is strange as we were running five minutes behind a train that called at… uh, Oldfield Park and Keynsham. So passengers could’ve used that one.

Hey @GWRHelp, other than “slowing me down, so I miss my bus and have to wait half an hour in the city centre”, how come the 1822 SWI—BRI is randomly calling at Oldfield Park and Keynsham today? What’s up with that?

@greggislocallfc To me this does sound a bit unreasonable. As a Guard I know signal and WiFi are quite important for this stuff and will leave the person and come back in a few minutes when the signal improves for them to show me their railcard if I need to 😊 We aren't all nasty 😅

@BenjaminEHowe @SteveWhiteRail Bare in mind he will be getting fined for all the individual journeys he did this fraudulent act on. Therefore it will equal more than a season ticket because individual journeys over a long period would cost more than a season ticket. A season ticket is designed to save money.

@SteveWhiteRail I'm a little confused by the £5,900 figure – the article says that the defendant travelled from Orpington to Canary Wharf for 11 months, but an annual season ticket for this route is only £3,264?

From someone working on the railway I can say that all of us as staff don't ever want this to happen again. I think that we would all like to keep our customers safe out there every day. My thoughts are with everyone who was involved and stay safe ❤️ 2/2

I know I am a bit late in saying this but I have been away this weekend and have just been catching up on the news. I do hope those involved with the horrible events on the @LNER service on Saturday are getting the support they need. Words cannot describe how they must feel. 1/2

@All_UK_Stations @TRAINSFLYWINE Very true, that is a stupid amount of time to wait. They normally are when it comes to last trains, unless our control team didn't pick up on it on this occasion or they couldn't get hold of the Guard to tell them to wait. I hope it was just a one off case this time 🤞

@ConductorAlbert @TRAINSFLYWINE Would be good if this one left a bit later as it would allow a connection from Penzance instead of forcing people on the train before with a 1h14 connection 😂 For branch lines like this though 5mins would be fine if it were a guaranteed hold

Probably won’t plan to get the last train of the day after it wasn’t held for a minute last night 🤣 Only took 2.5 hours for the replacement taxi to show up 😭

@All_UK_Stations @TRAINSFLYWINE I honestly think 5 minute connections should be banned. As a Guard myself I cannot tell you how many times I have to apologise that we are going to miss a connection because we are a few minutes late and they won't hold it. All connections should be minimum 10 mins 😅

Well today is my last "official" late turn today. As of the 21st of this month I am moving links at my depot to permanent earlies 😁 Going to be something different but am looking forward to it and having a somewhat consistent schedule 🎉 My "last" late today being Weymouth ofc!

Hello from Bristol Temple Meads… I shouldn’t even be at Bristol Temple Meads today. Original plan was down to Chepstow and walk over the Severn bridge. Sadly CrossCountry cancellations have put that plan in the bin. So today’s new plan is to just wing it!

@CjTrains Had it myself the other day. Doors closing at 30 seconds before. Customer comes strolling up the platform not making any effort to run. Train starts moving and then they start running and shout that's leaving early! 😅😬

@BenedictTravels @AvantiWestCoast No that does mean it leaves at 1941. We as crew use the public time. So if the screens say 1941 which is what the public time is, we depart then. The working time is not what we go off, that is for a bit of leeway shall we say. So they were correct to depart at 1941.

@ConductorAlbert @AvantiWestCoast Exactly, the WTT was 1943, which would’ve been on the crew diagram. So it left 2 early. The schedule had 2 mins public offset, but that doesn’t mean they should be leaving at 1941
