@oscarfogelstrm @Glinner He’s made this argument many times. This isn’t just a thought exercise in which he doesn’t have a stake in the outcome. The argument Hitler didn’t really want to win because he took catastrophic decisions that led to his loss is based on some really shaky assumptions.

@MaCgroupUK @HammersmithBri1 Right on all points, except it has reduced pollution and hasn’t cost the economy a fortune. But other than that, spot on as always 👍

@nessimmersion @willnorman 6 for kicks. 5’s Alive! 4 is galore. 3’s a breeze. 2’s a dream (come true). And 1 - that’s won and done. Not familiar with Sorosians - are they from Doctor Who?

@willnorman The WEF / Sorosian 15 min city starts off with 20's plenty, then its 9s fine,8s great, 7s heaven. Then it'll be- you need authorisation to leave your 15 minute zone. All nodded along by fools who hate the working classes being mobile & don't understand the objective.

It won't come as a surprise to many, but good to see The Times saying that people actually like less traffic in local neighbourhoods. Concluding no big change is ever introduced without some initial opposition - so leaders should stick to their guns! thetimes.com/comment/colu...

@dare99 @OpenChiswickW4 Yes, and what a success PE made of them! Pavements are a natural, state owned monopoly and under exploited commercially, so ripe for privatisation. But not roads. Those need to be free to use for SUVs as that’s a human right under Magna Carta.

“Not one inch of pavement” she cries when somebody suggests protecting women and children riding their bikes from HGVs. “Take the pavement for free” she cries when restaurants want to use public space in Chiswick for profit.

@OpenChiswickW4 Yeah, OK, didn’t see she was campaigning against the modest fee. Usually Tories don’t mind pricing a scarce resource. But they don’t like monopolies or government. Biddolph should campaign to privatise the pavements and sell them off to PE, then the council can rent them back.

@PutneyNews I agree with many points in this article, but it was a bit misleading to use 2020 (Covid) as the comparison as it suggests traffic is increasing. Putney Bridge traffic is down 35% since 2000 and 2% down since 2018 despite Hammersmith’s closure. (Latest year is 2024.)

Hammersmith Bridge closed in 2019. Albert Bridge closed in 2026. Same failure. Same cast iron. Same boroughs bearing the cost alone. In 2021, London was told exactly how to stop this happening again. What happened to that plan: putney.news/2026/04/05/lon… #Accountability #Putney

@LStoerseth @OpenChiswickW4 Yes for Battersea as well. The entire argument to reopen Hammersmith to cars because of the impact on other bridges is based on assumptions rather than data.
Ed Saper@EdSaper

@in_my_30s @theJeremyVine @LBHF There was less than a 1% increase in traffic on Albert & Chelsea Bridges in 2019. Battersea had 6% and Vauxhall 4%. All traffic increases have reversed since. Traffic over these 4 bridges is down 11% since 2017 and 29% since 2000.

More untruths from the worst Councillor in Hounslow. Traffic on the A316 from Chiswick Bridge has dropped by 20% since the closure of Hammersmith Bridge. Traffic has dropped on all of the adjacent bridges. And it has dropped on the A4 as a direct result of its closure to cars
Joanna Biddolph@JoannaBiddolph

Hammersmith Bridge: When it closed in 2019 #Chiswick was immediately affected by displaced traffic. We Tory cllrs met London's then deputy mayor for transport @Heidi_Labour to discuss re-opening the bridge. Seven years later and we're still waiting ... express.co.uk/news/politics/…?

@simonjcalvert @JoannaBiddolph Yes. I understand your point. If you double cycling in a year and injury risk remains the same, then you get double the number of injuries. The safety review provides evidence that cycle tracks can reduce collisions by up to 89%, which is why more cycle tracks are being put in.

@EdSaper @JoannaBiddolph However you word it, collisions are not actually down 89%, it’s the odds of collisions, and despite there being more cycle tracks and the odds being lower, the number of collisions have increased. As before, that is the point of Vincents post.

Be alert to manipulated data from the active travel movement ...
Vincent Stops@VincentStops

The only evidence @willnorman has that cycle tracks are safer is a single piece of research produced by Westmister University looking at the injury odds of a collision comparing the tracks in isolation to the intersections. In the real world serious injuries are soaring.

@simonjcalvert @JoannaBiddolph VS makes 3 points: cycle tracks don't increase safety (they do), evidence they do doesn't exist (it does) & total no. of cyclist injuries in London has increased (it has), as has the no. of cyclists & miles cycled, so risk is unchanged & that's an argument for more cycle tracks.

@EdSaper @JoannaBiddolph The 89% is the odds of collisions occurring, not actual numbers of collisions reduced which Vincent Stops point.

@JoannaBiddolph Joanna, the report says the exact opposite! Cycle tracks reduce collisions by up to 89%. They improve perceptions of safety because they ARE safer. @vincentstops has confused cycle tracks with painted cycle lanes. The report clearly defines both.  @OpenChiswickW4 @AldredKeith

@OpenChiswickW4 Biddolph built her entire political career off removing C9, so it’s an acknowledgement of how popular & well used the bike lane is to have now moved to a policy of only removing chunks of it! Another 5 years with a new generation of candidates & core base and they’ll move on.

Chiswick Conservatives are threatening to remove Cycleway 9 on Chiswick High Road and restore rat running traffic to the residential streets of Grove Park. It is time for anybody who walks, wheels or cycles in Chiswick to vote these sociopaths out in May. Let’s get rid.

Hounslow local elections 2026: Out listening to residents with @CllrGrewal & @RonnieMushiso. Comments included: No to LTNs due to displaced traffic & longer journeys; need more parking; too many high rises. Our manifesto deals with all three - championing what residents want.

@OpenChiswickW4 @SocEnvJustice The other interesting thing (apart from the white supremacist stuff) is that what they want is a high street dominated by cars which is exactly why that 2013 high street looks so drab and dead! @OpenChiswickW4 Imagine how quick the buses would be! We’d miss out on 350 car crashes a day - John Stewart will be along in a sec to complain that if we don’t take our fair share of crashes, they’ll be displaced to Africa, which is racist.
