@RonDeSantis The Red Sox arguably lost in the WS to the best team of three consecutive decades, 67' Cardinals, 75' Reds, 86' Mets.

The 70s had some really good teams; Reds, Orioles, Pirates, A’s and Yankees.
George III@TreySetzer

@RonDeSantis Imo, the best team from '70 through '76, even w/A's having a three-peat.

Top executives from both LIV Golf and the PGA Tour were at @SBJ’s Sports Business Awards last night in New York. Scott O’Neil had a friendly exchange with Brian Rolapp, as well as SSG’s Sam Kennedy, seen here

@EdHand89 @Ryblades27 Agree on Anthony and especially if he is hitting 3rd with Duran heating up. Please explain why Mayer isn't the everyday SS?? Mind boggling. Agree he could have a much bigger impact if they lean on him. Do they think Arias is that close?

@HackswithHaggs Maybe just another example of a very good player who is not developing in the archaic, outdated and questionable Bruins development culture. That should be the story.

@JonesandKeefe @Keefe21 And then what? Duran is the only upside you have offensively. The only way you salvage the season and have any success is to have Duran in the lead off spot, on base (any way) and disrupting the opponent with aggressive sometimes reckless baserunning. Duran has to succeed!

"Send him out on the first thing smoking. I would trade him so fast" Jarren Duran has started to turn his season around, and @Keefe21 believes now might be the perfect time for the Red Sox to maximize his trade value.

@DanBFox1287 The #2 slot is a black hole. You can't just move a guy there because he's hot. Maybe he's hot because he's hitting 7-9. Just another reason why losing Bregman killed the season.

@aerockrose There's no right or wrong answer. Steve is trying to understand how you might respond in a customer negotiation. The emotional response is a quick yes, the desired answer is sharing how you would formulate your response or even ask if you can think about it and get back to him.

Steve Ballmer reveals the interview test Microsoft used to separate problem-solvers from gamblers: "I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 100. First guess, I give you $5. Then $4, $3, $2, $1. After that, you pay me." "There are far more numbers on which you lose than win."

@DanBFox1287 Bloom drafted well by simply picking the consensus top pick remaining on everyone's board. Except that year. Lost opportunity. Boston writers were scratching their heads. No idea who actually made the call but it's fun to think of what an OF they could have had.

I like Blaze Jordan. He’s also a right-handed first baseman with a limited power upside who doesn’t walk He was also Rule 5 eligible and netted an extremely valuable reliever You do this 100 times out of 100 Plenty of stuff to knock Craig about, but this ain’t it
Dean Ciriaco@Deanciriaco

The “smartest man in baseball” traded Blaze Jordan for Steven Matz. At least Matz is pitching great for another team! Craig Breslow is on the hot seat.

@TheWingoNetwork @wingoz I think they have known for some time the end was coming. Rahm looked in terrific physical shape yesterday. Koepka got heavier and now looks great. Smith has some work to do but acknowledging that he needed a coaching change was maybe a sign that he knows the PGA is coming.

LIV Players Were Suddenly Back In Contention Jon Rahm, Cameron Smith, and Joaquin Niemann were all near the top of the leaderboard after long stretches where many LIV players hadn’t seriously contended in majors. With so much uncertainty surrounding LIV’s future, it made for an interesting shift. 📺: Full episode here: youtu.be/qc18UeqgIAw @wingoz

Red Sox have “kicked around” Marcelo Mayer playing shortstop but it’ll depend on Trevor Story’s prognosis, Chad Tracy said. Sounds like Monasterio and Sogard in the near-term with Kiner-Falefa also available.

@Buster_ESPN Breslow's mistakes are obvious but all the good work he has done in building the pitching prospect pool is going unnoticed. If you can find a big RH power 3B (no, Austin Riley is not walking through that door) go for it. If not, move the vets now and find young hitters.

One of the challenges for the Red Sox: even if they want to make substantive changes with the roster, it would be tough to do so, because they’ve got a combination of young (and cheap) players who they expect to develop; and expensive veterans who can’t easily be moved. And as the Royals can testify, adding offense in trades — power, in particular— is much tougher than adding pitching.

@ConorRyan_93 I think Tortorella would gladly trade some 17 year old pimple faced kid from Moose Jaw Saskatchewan that will never play for him for an opportunity to stick it to the Press.

@MattMcCarthy985 Work with me here. Breslow's plan was to re-sign Bregman. He got punked by Boras. His knee jerk reaction was the Milwaukee trade rather than just signing Suarez. Let's assume that's his only big mistake. Is there a power hitting 3rd baseman anywhere who can bat 4/5 in the order?

Buster is right about this. It’s why I’m wondering if a fire sale makes the most sense. Strip the roster down, admit defeat on this hitting core, target upper minors prospects in return, and hope you’re serious enough to add a veteran bat or two in free agency. They probably don’t have the right baseball people in charge to make this happen, nor the right type of commitment from ownership.
