Step by step process from Commish @JoshPateCFB to fix CFB calendar: 1. Move Week 1 to where Week 0 falls. 2. Conference championships games are Thanksgiving Weekend 3. Take 6 bowls either the Friday after Thanksgiving & play them. They are CFP data points, and you can play yourself into or out of the CFP. Then on Saturday…it’s selection time

I like that people have just decided this is some super easy schedule 😭 Like we didn’t just see Indiana go from 3-9 to 11-1 from 2023 to 2024 + numerous other one-year turnarounds. Houston just won 10 games. Arizona & TCU just won 9 games. How do we know the matchup with the entirely new Oklahoma State team isn’t a Top 10 game? What if Rich Rod takes WVU from 4-8 to 9-3… like he ALREADY did the first time he was there. In the portal era especially, no one knows virtually anything about what these schedules will turn out to be.

@wokal_distance This is all true, but it also isn't the whole story. You don't have to be rich and famous, you just need to be excellent at something people like. You can also be: Funny Attractive Physically strong Smart Charismatic Or just like...excellent at anything that is masculine.

This doesn't work for normal men and I'm going to explain why: What Tom Holland is doing here is called "counter-signalling." This works by demonstrating that you have so much surplus social status that you can get away with breaking social norms and expectations. For example: at most jobs everyone wears a suit or uniform to work and shows up at 8 AM...except for the owner of the company who shows up at noon wearing a t-shirt and jeans. The owner can do that because, as the owner, he has so much influence and status within the company that he can break the dresscode amd show up late and still get away with it. The regular employees can't do this, if they ever even tried it they would get fired. The same goes with the video below. Tom Holland can do it because he's a millionaire actor who plays spiderman, and Zendaya loves it because it's a display of the fact that he has so much social status that he can do this stuff and get away with it. If a regular man tried this on a first date (or even a 1pth date) it would look completely cringy. Being able to pull this off is a result of Tom Holland having enormous social status, it isn't the reason he has that status. It like the company owner: he doesn't own the company because he wears tshirts and shows up late, he wears tshirts and shows up late because he owns the company. Telling young men to aspire to do drag to get a girl gets the causation exactly backwards— Tom Holland isn't famous cause he can pull this off, he cannpull this off because he is rich and famous. This won't work for normal men because they don't have the social status to pull this off; confidence and "security" are irrelevant. I can have the security and confidence to show up late to work wearing a t-shirt instead of my suit or uniform; but if I do that I'll still get fired. The same thing applies here. How much status you have and the social position you occupy play a big role in determining how the signals you send get interpreted. A regular woman talking to a regular guy is going to have very different opinion of him if he shows up in drag than she does of the famous actor does over the top performative drag on a TV show. Telling young men that secure masculinity looks like doing drag performances is like telling people trying to get a promotion at work that they should wear t-shirts and show up late. It doesn't work that way.

@StanCollymore I think it perhaps echoes a cultural difference in Sports where America and their Sports "franchises" are individualistic while in England, from club's roots in communities and collectivism even if they're now large commercial enterprises, 'are' reflects that sense better.

The answer is, is. But it highlights something interesting in modern football too. In England, for decades a football club announcement would be, "Aston Villa ARE delighted to announce ". Now, due to American ownership and influence, the same sentence would now be, "Aston Villa IS delighted to announce ". Is, in this context is actually grammatically correct as a football club is a unitary body ( in grammar although a club has many players, staff and supporters it's seen as unitary, 1, like a person, "Dave IS", not "Dave ARE") but form many Brits, ARE is still widely used. Check it out on club feeds. They'll mostly use "is".

The Adams play I don’t believe they considered him going to the ground on the catch! He caught standing up & then once contracted went down and kind of gave himself up… this since not “deemed going to ground”, he is down when knee hits! Different than Cooks going straight to ground!

Three reasons this isn’t BS: 1) The money involved is escalating at an untenable rate due to booster egos. 2) Teams full of free agents (Indiana starts 14/22 transfers) are hard to root for. 3) Indiana poaching half JMU’s starters with Cignetti isn’t sustainable for anyone.
