Not sure why @CryptoHayes is suddenly posting this as if it’s anything new with an attestation they dropped a month ago?! Tether has always relied on holding risk assets to back part of USDT. It has nothing to do with any view on rates and US rates have been coming down since last year. What is true is 2/3rds of USDT’s “profits” in ‘24 and 1H’25 have come from BTC and XAU mark to market gains. They are boosting their results by taking directional bets on two assets - not a sustainable model for a stablecoin issuer (and not allowed in any regulated stablecoin jurisdiction other than El Salvador) And that is not working for them this quarter - we have a month to go, but so far they’re on track to lose money in 4Q.
