The proposed dissolution of the Zimbabwe Gender Commission raises serious concerns for the protection and promotion of gender equality in Zimbabwe. We call for the strengthening, not weakening of institutions that safeguard the rights of women and girls. #ProtectGenderJustice

State distributes free sanitary towels to over 41,000 Murang'a girls. Source: @thestarkenya An organized structure and way of distribution of this including office responsible is quite critical, otherwise this can quickly turn into politics! Sanitary towels are vital basic products and should never be used to advance political milestones for anyone!

Professor Lizette Erasmus, who is part of the research team yesterday said that they’ve been reached out by the period companies mentioned in the study. I’m hoping that statements will be made to provide some clarity & accountability is taken.

I am Ugandan. I breathe Ugandan air, I walk Ugandan soil, I love with a Ugandan heart, and yet my country wants me dead for it. The Anti-Homosexuality Act didn’t just criminalize who I love. It criminalized my existence. Every day I wake up in Uganda as an LGBTQ+ person is an act of resistance. Every breath is defiance. Every smile I share with someone I love is illegal. But I refuse to disappear for your comfort. We are your children. Your neighbors. Your teachers. Your friends. We have always been here. The world is watching Uganda. History is watching Uganda. Drop the Anti-Homosexuality Law. NOW.

[FOOD JUSTICE]: Dear President @CyrilRamaphosa, we hope your 2026 SONA will bring real solutions for the unaffordable cost of living! Food is expensive! Month to month, millions in Mzansi cannot afford to buy healthy, nutritious food for themselves and their families. Sometimes they can afford maize meal, many times they cannot. Greedy big businesses and big supermarkets keep hiking food prices and making big profits at the expense of our people. In 2026, we continue to demand that food prices fall! ⏭️ According to Pietermaritzburg Economic Justice and Dignity (PMBEJD), in January 2026, of the 44 foods tracked in the basket, 26 foods increased in price. Foods in the basket which increased in price in January 2026 include: potatoes (15%), onions (15%), frozen chicken portions (5%), soup (7%), carrots (8%), spinach (16%), cabbage (6%), cremora (7%), rice (3%), salt (4%), Maas (2%), eggs (4%), chicken gizzards (4%), beef (2%), beef tripe (2%), apples (4%), margarine (2%), peanut butter (2%), and polony (4%). We continue the fight for supermarkets, big food businesses, and the government to drop food prices. We’re calling on Shoprite and President Cyril Ramaphosa to lower prices on basic foods and be transparent about pricing. Let’s protect the right to food. [READ]: "The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness says it has no plans to comply with a 2025 Labour Court ruling that community health workers (CHWs) must be absorbed into the formal health workforce. Nobuntu Mfengwana (53) is a CHW in Cape Town working for Philani Nutrition Centre, one of the NPOs contracted by the department. “Being regarded as an essential worker feels like an insult to me. I see myself as a vulnerable worker,” says Mfengwana. She’s been working as a CHW for different organisations since 2012, gaining extensive experience over the years. She earns R4900 monthly – an amount she says is not enough to meet the basic needs of her family of nine." Read more via @HealtheNews here: health-e.org.za/2026/02/16/wes…. #TogetherForJustice ✊🏾

Soul City Institute for Social Justice
Recently, our current Feminist Leadership and Activism Centre (FLAC) cohort and first cohort alumni visited the Centre for African Philanthropy and Social Investment (CAPSI), where they engaged in powerful conversations on decolonisation, philanthropy, systems change, and the role of research and practice in building a more just and inclusive society. Dialogues like these strengthen continental networks of leadership and deepen collaboration across movements shaping the future of transformative change in Africa. #CAPSI #FeministLeadership #AfricanPhilanthropy #DecolonisingKnowledge #YouthLeadership #systemschangeconf pics by CAPSI Ford Foundation

We write with rage. We speak with love for our sisters whose dignity has been stripped. This statement is our collective cry against the systematic violation of women by those meant to protect us. Our homes are not theatres of state violence. Silence is no longer an option. #EndGBV
