I research things in the waters of the PNW. Product of WA state, and educated by the fine people at UW and TAMU.

Not long ago, Johns Hopkins boasted high Black and Hispanic numbers. Then came SCOTUS ruling and a huge reversal: Today, 45% of freshmen are Asian-American, up from 26% just 2 yrs ago. And that doesn't include int'l students, mostly from Asia. @elliew0lfe: thebanner.com/education/high…

Daniel Buck, “Youngest Old Man in Ed Reform”
"Getting the right answer" in math is considered "white supremacy culture." I want progressives to look into a mirror, say that slowly, and ponder who the racists are: "Getting the right answer in math is a white person thing"

If Waymo gets its way, tens of thousands of people will be spared from automotive-related deaths. When Waymo gets a firm hold on a city, pedestrians, pets, and drivers are all safer. This isn’t inevitable — The pro-auto-fatality lobby is doing everything possible to stop it.
More Perfect Union@MorePerfectUS

NEW: If Waymo gets its way, 2 million workers will be out of work. When Waymo gets a firm hold on a city, wages go down. Some drivers now have to work 12 hours day, 7 days a week just to get by. This isn't inevitable — but Big Tech is spending millions to make you think it is.

@skaushik100 Maybe? I'm gay, and it happens, but it's still considered weird/obnoxious if it's not a joke

@alpendamon It’s way more common in the gay world, according to my gay friends.

I was curious about Eric Swalwell's alleged seduction technique of sending unsolicited dick pics to women he was trying to hit on. Gay guys send each other dick pics quite often (I am reliably informed). But what are the chances a heterosexual man sending an unsolicited dick pic to a woman is likely to elicit a positive response? Of course, there is a study, from 2020 (link in the next tweet)... h/t to @fakedansavage for sending me this when I asked him if he had any insight on this pressing question.

This could be the first time that it’s different! I’m a techno-optimist, but I readily concede new circumstances are different than old ones. But also, technological advancement as a category has been an unmitigated good for the last ~30,000 years, so the techno-pessimists need to at least explain how it’s different this time.

@rorysutherland Would a typical Londoner ever choose Heathrow over LCY for domestic travel? The hassle factor seems immense

What the hell explains this price discrepancy? It cannot be informed preference alone. What informational asymmetry is causing this?

@_ZachGriff If I'm biting on the premium (in the screenshot example) I'm definitely spending the (apparently) little bit more for the next class jump

@_ZachGriff It makes the premium seem very expensive. The service jump from economy to premium feels much less than premium to biz-first

Yikes: @United's brand-new basic Polaris fares are officially on sale, and there's one big restriction we didn't originally know about. You won't earn miles or PQPs on these tickets (unless you're a Premier or have a cobranded card). But wait, there's more.

@alpendamon Ideologies can provide useful and interesting tools of analysis, to an extent, but none of them, even the 'nice' ones, however you define that, explain everything, reality is too complex, especially for hacks and their 'correct' bullshit.

@Misanfrog You can definitely have a good story when the plot is consciously antithetical to the official message, however. That can be VERY good

@Misanfrog Conscious propagandists are terrible storytellers. Maybe there are counter examples, but when the plot is the official message it's going to suck
