This is real life in 2026, for all the people who say it’s not about race.
“Gary, why you always talking about race?” Because America keeps using politics and policy to screw over Black people.
Black members of Congress are often the ones fighting hardest to protect benefits and programs because they understand the need firsthand.
Yesterday, Black voters were preparing to elect a Black member of Congress again. Today, they signed papers to cancel that part of the election until they can draw a new map where a white candidate has a better chance to win.
That’s why we talk about race. Because they keep making it part of the story.

Very disappointed that Lt. Governor Evette’s invite to speak at SC State University’s commencement was withdrawn.
Pam is the Lt. Governor of our great state and the idea that her speech would have been anything less than inspiring to these graduates and their families is based in a close-minded, woke ideology.
When it comes to applying pressure, liberals seem to have no boundaries. To those who give in, believe it or not, it will create consequences over time.
The sooner we break from the wokeness that permeates our society — especially in higher education and at a great school like SC State — the better.

It's no secret. It's been discussed openly for years.

Not sure why teachers assume that they are the only ones who work outside contract hours. It's the difference between being a salaried and hourly employee. Everyone who goes into teaching knows - - or should know - - that they will have to take care of things outside school hours. It's a choice freely made.

Everyone loves to remind teachers about summer. Fine. Let's do the math. This week I worked nearly 60 hours. 6:30 arrival. Unpaid lunch with kids in my room. Covered PE — I teach Spanish. Graded vocab tests Friday night. Graded a children's book project on Saturday. Turned one into a movie and posted it for the class. Five hours of lesson planning today. The standard work week is 40 hours. The extra 20? Unpaid. Some weeks, the grading is lighter. Some weeks it's worse. This is not the worst week I've had. But yes. I get summers off.
