Current projects: Windrush Justice Project l Support for women in refuges & IRCs l Ending the deportation of people who have lived in the UK as minors

The Home Office Windrush scandal was a shameful injustice. From today, reforms come into force to deliver faster, fairer compensation for those harmed through no fault of their own. I am determined to right past wrongs and I urge eligible people to submit a claim today.

I welcome changes to the Windrush compensation scheme but we must not forget how poor and badly run this scheme is, the average award is 35k and 60% of claims are refused. Justice will be an independent scheme and an inquiry!

And that's in Hackney whose council left an elderly & ailing Windrush victim who'd returned to the UK, to struggle in rat infested accommodation without proper cooking facilities - emails went unanswered. He's got better accommodation now but still struggling to get compensation. #WindrushCompensationScheme. #WindrushScandal #HomeOffice

The Windrush compensation scheme should never have been in the hands of the Home Office, which was responsible for implementing the policy. It should now urgently be placed in the hands of an independent body. theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/j…

Just 3 hours left to reach the target of £10,000 for the work of Detention Action, a sum which will be matched through the Big Give and further increased by your tax relief. Please check the back of your sofas and the bottom of your bags for any loose change for the last push (Gosh fundraising is difficult), and thank you to everyone who has donated so far.
