We are closely monitoring reports of the attack at a synagogue in Michigan. Out of an abundance of caution, @PhillyPolice is increasing patrols around houses of worship and other sensitive locations. As always, remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to 911.

Our thoughts remain with the family, friends, and colleagues of @PAStatePolice Corporal Timothy O’Connor, who was killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop in Chester County. We stand with our PSP partners as they mourn this heartbreaking loss.

Our thoughts remain with the @PhillyFireDept firefighters injured battling Monday night’s blaze in Wynnefield. Philadelphia’s first responders show up for our City every day, no matter the risk. Wishing them strength and a speedy recovery!

The major Winter Storm descending on Philadelphia is predicted to bring anywhere from 12 to 18 inches of snow to our City, along with high winds, starting later today and extending into Monday. Based on the steadily worsening forecast from the National Weather Service, I am declaring a Disaster Emergency under the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter and Pennsylvania law, effective immediately.  I have communicated this step to @GovernorShapiro. This declaration of a Disaster Emergency will allow the @PhiladelphiaGov to more effectively fight this large and dangerous storm as it rolls in, including our ability to execute emergency management measures to reduce the severity of this disaster and to protect the health, safety, property, and welfare of Philadelphia residents.  It is absolutely vital that the City be able to mobilize and utilize all available resources to address this extreme snow emergency.  We will continue to communicate closely with you, the People of Philadelphia, along with all of our appropriate public officials.

NWS Blizzard Warning in effect through tomorrow. A blizzard is defined as high winds of 35mph or more with snow reducing visibility to less than a 1/4 mile for 3 hours or more. Hazards include power outages and dangerous travel conditions.

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the line of duty death of Corporal Matthew “Ty” Snook. To his family, loved ones, and our brothers and sisters at @DEStatePolice - @PhillyPolice and I are holding you close today. His service, courage, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Today, we honored the life and legacy of P/O Andy Chan. A Highway legend, a devoted husband, father, son, public servant,and a man who embodied excellence. From this day forward, the Medal of Excellence will be known as the Andy Chan Medal of Excellence. His legacy lives on!
