@TMFAssociates @SpectrumSleuth @malleven33 Which is better isn't just a satcom question. Amazon has an edge as a global distribution platform for iPhone sales should Apple decide to drop the MNOs. Add connectivity to that and you've got a package that SpaceX can't match.
SpaceX genius is it's launch capability.

Delta is choosing to wait until 2028 to get Amazon LEO, instead of getting Starlink today.
I assume they got a great deal to be the first big client, but I suspect politics and EDS played a significant role in that decision as well…

@RogerEntner @FCC @ATT I think the bigger question is why this ban doesn’t apply to smart home hubs and home security hubs. I think there’s more to be announced as the industry comes to terms with what this means.

Amazon Leo is desperately trying to make itself real ahead of the FCC’s July 30, 2026 deadline to launch half (~1,618) of its first gen Kuiper satellites. It currently has about 200 in orbit.
These vapor ware announcements don’t change the launch economics. @Delta has nothing to lose with this announcement. Amazon delivers the management looks like geniuses. They don’t, Delta is back at the bargaining table with SpaceX.

I agree this is the most significant statement, an acknowledgement of the reality that Starlink demand is not unlimited. 20K V3 BB sats is enough for 200M+ users worldwide, 1200 V2 DTC satellites may be sufficient for occasional use by up to 2B mobile subs

This is the link to actual interview and not the editorialized article. Interesting. The single biggest insight is Gwynne saying "I don't think we'll have more than 15 or 20,000 Starlink satellites." There is room for interpretation (like maybe she's referring to broadband alone), but the DTC (starlink mobile) FCC filing itself is for 15k. A cap on constellation size could point to better V4 sats increasing capacity, other connection sat class (laser to ground) for things like AI sat connection), or simply conviction in AI Sats leading to reprioritization from capacity. Any or some combination of all. our current model's indication Starlink traffic would increase as a function of AI Sat usage, so connection capacity demand should really only go in one direction... up. time.com/article/2026/0…

Someone should ask the @FCC GC about how they plan to defend this when it ends up in court. Clearly Carr isn’t afraid of prejudging this proceeding.

Amazon should focus on the fact that it will fall roughly 1,000 satellites short of meeting its upcoming deployment milestone, rather than spending their time and resources filing petitions against companies that are putting thousands of satellites in orbit.

This is a classic SpaceX move. Just like Starlink's spectrum, it's a land grab. Whoever asks first wins. And the @FCC is regulating satellite constellations like it's still 1999.

@Megaconstellati Amazon's Kuiper is all but dead. They just might not know it yet. It appears that TeraWave is Bezos' attempt to get his old company to sell Kuiper to the billionaire. But it won't matter unless Blue Origin can work out its launch issues.

Kuiper appears to be at a disadvantage compared to Starlink due to the absence of its own launch capabilities, which suggests less vertical integration. However, many overlook Amazon's extensive vertical integration on the network and service side, which goes far beyond SpaceX.

As I already stated repeatedly in 2019, @ProjectKuiper is going to be a global cloud on-ramp & the profit will be made further down the value chain in the AWS cloud, rendering the satellite network into a COGS meaning it doesn't need to ever return profits

4. Positioning: @ProjectKuiper engineers said "internet acess" was optional for Kuiper users - this was quite a shocker to me given how @Starlink is positioned as a consumer internet darling. - Kuiper engineers mentioned a (retail) customer or a business customer requiring internet access should need to turn on an Internet Gateway - an @awscloud VPC feature used to allow routing to the internet.

Some have been approved in one or two days. If not on today’s agenda, could easily get placed on next week if quickly approved.
