I’m just going to say this — had Mexican soldiers invaded across the USA’s southern border on 10/7/2023 to rape and murder their way across part of Texas, then paraded the corpses of dead, naked American women around like trophies for the Mexican civilian population to spit on, by 10/7/2024, Mexico as an independent country would have ceased to exist — and no one would have said a word in protest. No one tells non-Jewish nations that they must turn the other cheek after acts of war. Only Israel is expected to meekly bury her dead; only Jews are supposed to constantly mourn, but never to retaliate; to accept butchery and brutality and bombings as the price they must pay for mere existence — and it has far less to do with Palestinian lives than it does with the age-old European conviction that Jews only exist so that the rest of society has someone to abuse.

There's a certain kind of self-described libertarian who is disinclined to believe anything the US, Israeli, or Ukrainian government says, but inclined to believe anything Iran or Russia says. These people are not actually libertarians, they just hate the US government and by extension its allies.

@MikeUmbro The utilities do NOT decide rates. That is purely a function of the California Public Utilities Commission.

Newsom made PG&E a deal in the bankruptcy thing after the Paradise fire. 1. You cover the fires. 2. You take any heat, do not blame politicians. 3. You do what we (Newsom's CPUC) says. 3. We guarantee PG&E management a sweet deal. 4. We guarantee new investors a guaranteed profit, by a loosely defined "everything is cost plus" mechanism. The more spent, the more profit. That was five years ago. The mechanism is now mature. It's in effect a tax increase. Governmental policy as administrated by PG&E and paid for by rate payers.

It is absolutely ridiculous. We have gas heat and a gas stove. I'm sort of a Nazi about leaving lights on. And my electricity bill in Calif in the winter is still $500 a month.
