If Congress, which is controlled by Republicans, went into recess for 10 days, then TRUMP could fill hundreds of executive branch positions and even federal judicial positions. It wouldn't exactly be unprecedented. Obama had something like 32 recess appointments. But Trump's own party is PREVENTING him from making these recess appointments by holding PRO-FORA sessions that PREVENT the 10-day timer from completing. I’ll probably be out matched here but wanted to chime in. A consideration of the term “PROVIDER” has in some cases replaced Doctors which could distort the M.D. per person numbers. Physician Assistant can see many patients but requires only 1 MD on staff. A while ago PAs couldn’t bill without the supervising physician’s name on the bill now they not only bill they can order prescription medication.

The whole Doctor shortage narrative is missing some vital information we should all be skeptical about. If concern for care in the developing world were genuine why drain vital physicians from places where they are most needed. The worldwide stats do not scream desperate US shortage that only foreign trained doctors can fix. They expose a controlled domestic bottleneck instead. US physician density sits at roughly 2.7 doctors per 1 000 people. That number lands below the OECD average and trails leaders like Greece at over 6.5 or Austria near 5.5. Yet the pipeline keeps pulling in thousands of international medical graduates every year from countries with far thinner ratios India near 0.8 Pakistan around 1.0 Philippines near 1.7 and far lower across much of sub Saharan Africa at 0.2 to 0.7. The residency cap frozen since the 1997 Balanced Budget Act never scaled with US medical school growth or an aging population. That leaves qualified US seniors unmatched or funneled into SOAP while provisional fast track paths open in 18 plus states for experienced foreign physicians who bypass full US residency oversight. Our politicians push this for the lobbyists and the AMA does, as well - Hospitals and systems gain compliant lower cost labor and higher billing margins. Visa dependent staff follow protocols more readily. The rural shortage cover story persists even though most IMGs cluster in urban or suburban markets where the economics work best for the institutions.
