Almost like we stopped paying attention to development and poverty and focused on something else at their expense. “Extreme poverty has barely fallen since 2015. Measures of public health have declined since covid. Since the mid-2010s economic growth rates in poor economies have been slower than in richer ones.”

@gregatval Isn’t that the same argument Blueskyites always make when someone comes over to their side? “Get out of here—where were you before?”

Grocery stores have been ‘solved.’ They’ve been solved. Anything with a 2% profit margin is solved. Maybe you could wring some more efficiency on an industry level with improved logistics but that’s going to an incredibly complex technical endeavor above the pay grade of municipal government. That’s why the ‘public grocery stores’ are such a good example of Dem Soc silliness. They’re a political set piece with ~0% chance of any net public benefit and an extremely high likelihood of wasted resources and opportunity costs.

🚨 Sources to Reuters: Iran wanted above all for US Vice President JD Vance to face them in talks tomorrow, as he is perceived in Tehran as perhaps the figure most opposed to war. In contrast, Iran views Witkoff and Kushner, who are accompanying him, with suspicion and distrust, as they are associated with the talks that, from Iran's perspective, led to attacks against them.

@wpath Last year, I interviewed Dr. Laura Edwards-Leeper for @CityJournal. Edwards-Leeper helped establish the first pediatric gender clinic in the U.S. and is often recognized as a moderate (but pro-GAC) voice in the field. Here is how she understands the term "gender identity":

"Gender identity" is a foundational concept in gender medicine, but the leading authority in this field, @wpath, offers no useful definition of the term. In this short video, I explain why WPATH's definition contains self-contradiction, circular reasoning, and stereotypes.

7/7 Iranians deserve clean water, reliable electricity, open internet, and a future in their own country. The regime denied them all of that long before Operation Epic Fury. The conversation about civilian harm is legitimate, but the Islamic Republic is the original author of Iranian suffering

1/7 The concern that striking Iran's power infrastructure will harm civilians is real and I don't dismiss it. But let's be honest about who has been doing the most damage to Iranian civilians long before any foreign missile flew. The Iranian regime has spent 45 years destroying the very infrastructure its people depend on through corruption, mismanagement, and ideological obsession. No foreign invasion has caused what the Islamic Republic has inflicted on its own people.

So I used an online, for-pay service, got help, got a prescription, went to a 24-hour-a-day pharmacy, got it filled, and fixed the problem. All it took was totally bypassing the Ontario system and spending my own cash. 3/3

One of my favourite health-care experiences in Canada (in a bad way!) was having a potential medical situation that was serious but NOT an emergency. No GPs or walk-ins available. ER wasn't appropriate. Called the Ontario telehealth line. After a long wait, got a nurse. 1/3
gary@garyborninmetz

@mattgurney Maybe we need 24 “Walk-in” Clinics like we have 24 hour Shoppers and Timmy’s?! Or maybe Timmy’s should get into the healthcare business. “Double-“double” and flu meds at the same location!

There will be no repealing of C69 under Carney but this is the next best option: keeping Feds in their jurisdictional lane in impact assessment

That was quick…the draft cooperation agreement on environmental and impact assessment between Canada and Alberta is now final, immediately after the 21 day public consultation. This is about institutionalizing “one project, one review” and the feds have made similar agreements with a half dozen other provinces. alberta.ca/release.cfm?xI…

As a CASA I've read all the studies. I was a section co-author on a Detransitioner amicus brief to SCOTUS on Skrmetti. "Trans kids" is developmental flat-eartherism. Children deserve better than performative inclusivity that exposes them to being lied to and sexually maimed. Have some fucking GUTS.

Why our Transgender policy is hurting DEMOCRATS: Everyone over ~40 became an adult pre-Trans. We all remember a "free to be you and me' world. People know this ideation is new. People know it's not ok to lie to kids. Kids are often gullible, impulsive, rash, unwise. Kids cannot meaningfully consent to abstract harms. Endo disruption for cosmetic purposes = bad values. Permanent feigning = not 'authentic' or mentally healthy. Most know by now a 'TG' person w many other issues. It is not progressive to neuter children for goal of cosmetic passing, eg fooling strangers. It's better to develop to adulthood naturally & in perfect health. It is better to come to radical self-acceptance.

Can anyone recommend me a good book either about or set in medieval Europe? Alternate history, non-fiction, and historical fiction are all welcome. I get these obsessions with different historical periods, and right now I’m stuck in the Middle Ages, having already explored WWII, the USSR under Stalin and into the Kruschev thaw, the American Civil War, and the Russian revolution. I know that’s not a long list, but I’ve read fairly exhaustively on each subject over the course of three or four years. I’d appreciate any suggestions, including books written in the medieval period, provided there’s an English translation.

We rebuilt Tina's capacity — strength work, glute loading, lateral movement, and a return-to-run program matched to where she actually was, not where she remembered being. Five months later, she signed up for her first half-marathon in ten years. The tear is still there, and it doesn't matter. howardluksmd.substack.com/p/when-your-pa…

Tina is 57. Competitive runner in her 30s. Then life happened — kids, loss, single parenthood. Her running stopped, and she no longer went to the gym. When the kids left for college, she started running again. Came back too fast. Got hurt. Then hurt again. Then her knee wouldn't settle. Her MRI showed a meniscus tear. The first surgeon said she needed surgery. Same with the second. She came to me for a third opinion.

@RoyPrice Get Shorty is ridiculously good. It's one of the three or four good movies Travolta did during his post-Pulp Fiction comeback before he decided to just say yes to everything to pay for his jet fuel.
