I was asked to sponsor another young man into the Church, so I attended OCIA tonight for the first time with him and was blown away at the size of the class
These were all young people, too, and in a small diocese based on population
The yearning for the truth is growing rapidly
Good things are happening. I’m not giving up

@AVerba93069 @RaymondArroyo Prayers re Holy Rosary are available online…❤️🙏

@RaymondArroyo How very sad and yet encouraging he is to his flock. The Cardinal is a good shepherd. I'll have to find the suggested prayers that accompany the rosary so my family and I can pray it together in solidarity with the Christians of the Holy Land. Thank you for sharing this letter!

I am deeply saddened to share that Amanda Lathlin, the first First Nations woman elected to the Manitoba Legislature and MLA for The Pas-Kameesack, has begun her final journey.
In a 2015 by-election, Amanda made history in Manitoba: though Indigenous women have been here since time immemorial, she became the first to serve in the provincial legislature. The barrier she broke helped pave the way for other Indigenous women to serve as MLA and Minister. It also contributed to my eventual election as Premier.
Amanda was a one of a kind voice for the north, The Pas, and her community of Opaskwayak Cree Nation, where she’d previously served as councillor.
Amanda was a great retail politician who loved to visit and laugh with her constituents. The first time I visited Trappers’ Fest in The Pas she blew me away by greeting every single person we met by their first name.
Amanda was very proud of legislation she passed to provide stronger services for sexual assault survivors in the north and compassionate leave for those who miscarry. Amanda also fought for Oscar’s Place, a homeless shelter in The Pas, which was her late father’s legacy. Amanda’s dad, Oscar Lathlin, was an NDP Cabinet Minister who served in the Doer government before his passing in 2008.
Amanda was proud of the Cree language. She began incorporating it into her remarks in the legislature starting when we were in Opposition.
Amanda and I had a relationship like no other. I had her back through the many challenges she faced in the last few years. And she kept speaking to me in a way that few people do these days: we laughed, we argued, and sometimes she’d just tell me “awas!”
Through these ups and downs she became a sister. The last time I spoke to her she made fun of me for wearing a suit to visit her in the hospital.
Amanda was a devoted mother who, in the months before her passing, became a grandmother. Above all else, she loved her family deeply and devoted her life to her girls.
My prayers are with Amanda’s loved ones in The Pas, Opaskwayak Cree Nation, and across Manitoba, as well as all who were touched by her leadership and friendship.
Kinanaskomitin Amanda, for all you have done for Manitoba. Your girls are healthy and strong. Tell Oscar we miss him too.

@panagis21 God bless your mom, and all moms, wherever they may be. 🙏🙏

Going to a work event tonight.
My 12 yo asked me if my dad taught me how to dress well and tie a tie.
He didn’t. My mom did.
She was a seamstress. She tailored many suits over 60 years.
She taught me how to tie a tie, pant lengths, shirts, etc. Even as an adult, she would tailor clothes for me if they didn’t fit well.
She also taught my dad and his brothers too, since they all grew up without a father.
Moms. Always there for their sons 🥹

Our hearts are broken as sweet Charlie has passed away, surrounded by loved ones. At just 9, she bravely fought medulloblastoma for over 5½ years with courage, strength, and a bright spirit.
Charlie was kind, joyful, and full of life—she loved making people laugh, playing UNO, dressing up, and shining wherever she went. Even in tough times, she never gave up.
She dreamed of becoming a doctor to help others. Today, we send love and strength to her family during this heartbreaking loss.

March 20, 2009:
4 Canadian soldiers killed, 8 wounded in Kandahar.
Two separate IED blasts that same morning ended the tail end of Operation Jaley — the largest joint US-Canadian offensive since the Korean War (4-day mission with over 2,000 troops to disrupt Taliban command centres & bomb supplies).
💥6:45 a.m., Zhari District (40 km west of Kandahar): Foot patrol hit. Killed MCpl. Scott Francis Vernelli (28, Sault Ste. Marie) & Cpl. Tyler Crooks (24, Port Colborne — on his birthday), both November Company, 3 RCR (Petawawa) + 1 Afghan interpreter. 5 Canadians wounded.
💥 8:45 a.m., Shah Wali Kot District (20 km northwest): Armoured vehicle struck roadside bomb. Killed Trooper Jack Bouthillier (20, Hearst, ON) & Trooper Corey Joseph Hayes (22, Ripples, NB), both Royal Canadian Dragoons (Petawawa). 3 more wounded.

💔 17 years ago today, March 20, 2009, during Operation Jaley, the largest joint US-Canadian 🇺🇸🇨🇦 operation since the Korean War, an IED ripped through our fighting patrol in Kandahar’s Zhari District.
Master Corporal Scott Francis Vernelli (28) and Corporal Tyler Crooks (24) of November Company, 3rd Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment were killed in action along with our Afghan interpreter.
We were on a fighting patrol taking a long halt when the pressure release IED blast hit. I, along with four others were injured in this deadly blast of HME. The explosion aftermath and medevac was captured by a CBC reporter imbedded with our patrol. 🎥⬇️
Their courage, sacrifice, and names live on forever. Today on their anniversary we remember them.
Lest We Forget 🫡🇨🇦
