If you’re in your 20s/30s I don’t recommend using a 401k calculator to look up your growth potential adjusted for inflation. It will end up something like “when your 65 your account balances will be $5m and you can withdraw 500k a year or 41k a month and adjusted for a 2.5-3% inflation rate will have the same purchasing power as $2k a month today”. I’m exaggerating but it’s bleak.

@UziCryptoo I bought a 530k house in 2019, the 2750 mortgage felt like a lot back then, it's still high but i can tell inflation has eaten away at it quite a bit. The kicker is locking in the P&I payment. (Your taxes will increase) At these prices you must stay for 10+y

I’m genuinely starting to not see the point in buying a house anymore. - Most houses I’ve looked at are over valued. - Property taxes (in Texas) are wild. - I have to maintain everything. - Mortgage would be more than my rent. - No guarantee value would increase. - Less amenities than a luxury apartment. Am I crazy for feeling this way? I feel crazy for feeling this way.

@UziCryptoo In 10 years, whatever mortgage you get now will feel cheap. Thats how inflation works. Inflation consumes all. The 600,000 house I am buying right now will be worth 10,000,000 by the time I die.

@adsilva264 @Real_OJ_Lawyer @DrOBrienMD Chlorine doesn't have a strong smell. What you normally associate with that smell is a chlormine(sp?) and it comes from off gasses when the pool is lacking enough. So every pool you smell that from is under chlorinated. 😀 (source: I have pools and hot tubs)

Y’all, not to be a huge nerd but for the reflecting pool you would need a minimum of about 8,000 liters of 12% hydrogen peroxide to reach the 50 parts per million concentration to kill algae… Is this what happens when you have 0 scientists in your administration?

@duncanstives It's a 4200sqft house. It breaks even in a northern climate. I have a tesla, but the biggest power draw is actually the hot tub, it uses about 2x what the car does annually. The house is still heated with natural gas. For me, it was worth it, and the break even time is 7y

@TheAnonOne4 14.4kw is massive. Are you charging EVs or something? Hard to imagine even a large house needing this much power.

I always find it funny when people at work, upon hearing we have solar power, tell me, in the manner of letting me on on some secret knowledge I probably didn't know, "I heard those things degrade over time and you have to replace them" Like... Yeah it's real tragedy, they only have a 25 year warranty unlike the 50 year warranty that something like a diesel generator would have 😂

I'll be honest - my own personal sentiment is about as low as it's ever been in the nearly 10yrs I've owned bitcoin. You shouldn't stare at the price week to week and month to month but obviously we do. If you bought bitcoin 5yrs ago you've got exactly the same return as the S&P 500. In exchange for an extreme amount of volatility that consisted of only a few comparatively short periods of real positivity. I do my best these days to just get on with life, and I'm sure in the end we'll be proven right. There's also something to be said for the resilience this teaches you - but I can't help thinking it'd be a whole lot easier just being a Boglehead S&P 500 Maxi.
