This is a good example of where the "heritage American" discourse leads. In the scene this Blaze guy is quoting here as representative of his ideology, Matt Damon's WASP character is saying he's a real American and Joe Pesci's Sicilian mobster character (who has lived his entire life in America) is not.

A fundamental lesson from my posts these last two weeks on modernization, industrial policy, and development is that development economics should be about understanding why South Korea got rich but Bolivia did not. The current field has largely given up on that question. Sharply identified RCTs on small micro programs are a fine way to publish in the AER and get tenure at a fancy university, but a profession that knows everything about microfinance impact evaluations and almost nothing about industrialization has misallocated its own intellectual capital on a pretty heroic scale. This is a subset of the affordability debate but I think there are a fair number of youngish Americans with $200-250k household incomes who feel like that should afford a nicer lifestyle than it actually can in top 10 metros (in part because retirees still have the good houses).

to Krog street tunnel, it's ~16 minute walk from King Memorial or Inman Park stations. In most 'walkable' cities that's a reasonable distance. In NYC people regularly walk 30 mins to and from transit but in atlanta people don't perceive that as reasonable
