# On the $CLOUD airdrop, Part 3 314,367 wallets signed up for Wonderland. After adjustment to accurately reflect retroactive EXP [^1], the total EXP across all wallets was 2,525,753,364,296.272 -- 2.5 trillion. The top wallet earned over 100 billion points. This is roughly equivalent to holding 1.7M SOL (~250M USDC) from the start of Wonderland to the end. The top 25 wallets (0.008%) earned 20% of all Wonderland EXP. The top 1% earned 73.6% of all Wonderland EXP; the top 10%, 94.01%. That means that the bottom 90% of wallets only made up 6% of total Wonderland EXP. This is an incredibly top-heavy distribution. As a point of comparison, in the United States in 2022, the top 1% earned 20.9% and the top 10% earned 48.5%. Even though the distribution was very top-heavy, we decided to make the capital component of the airdrop linear -- distributed in direct proportion to your share of the total Wonderland EXP. Each Referral Cupcake also gives 20,000 bonus EXP and will be added directly to your total [^2]. Why did we do this? Because someone who put in 1 SOL is not inherently better or more deserving than someone who put in 100,000 SOL. They are not any more aligned or any less mercenary. In fact, many people got to have lots of SOL by being early and true believers. We should not punish their success. This is exactly why earnestness is so important, and why we put so much effort into identifying and rewarding it. Given the success of Wonderland and the sheer amounts of money that flowed into @sanctumso, having a substantial earnestness allocation is critical to recognise and reward the efforts of users who don't have hundreds of millions of dollars. We believe this is the fairest way to do an airdrop. Those who contributed capital are rewarded proportionally and fairly, and those who contributed in other ways are rewarded too. Users who put in small amounts and did not contribute in other ways (in other words, those in the bottom-left quadrant) should not expect an outsize return. ## Punishing bad faith behaviour Our North Star is to reward the behaviour we want to see more of: the flip side is to punish the behaviour we want to see less of. In itself, having multiple wallets is not an issue. I have many wallets for security, privacy and organisational reasons. What we do not want to see is bad-faith behaviour: creating multiple wallets specifically to get an unfair advantage in Wonderland. We worked with the excellent @notawizard at @AlliumLabs, who identified two types of suspicious wallets: Sequential funding These are wallets with a funding pattern like this: Wallet A funded Wallet B, Wallet B funded Wallet C, Wallet C funded Wallet D, and so on. Some examples: Suspicious funding These are wallets that were funded by an automated procedure, or their funding pattern was very similar to other Wonderland wallets. We were very careful not to flag any legitimate users. Allium’s model was able to identify one legitimate user next to a suspicious cluster and separate them: While we could have directly zeroed out the wallets provided by Allium, we wanted to give users a chance. So we created Sanctum Profiles and asked everyone to fill it in honestly. This was your final chance to come clean. We did some in-house analysis with the data. If you did have wallets flagged by Allium, but you created a profile and linked your wallets together, this indicated that you were honest, and we did not punish you. But if you did not declare your wallets, or – worse yet – created multiple profiles to try and game the system – then we did not hesitate to zero out your allocation. Our efforts allowed us to flag out and blacklist 61181 wallets, about 20% of the total. Apart from underlining our commitment to punishing bad-faith behaviour, every $CLOUD we can claw back from the sybils means one extra $CLOUD we can give to honest users. ## Conclusion Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your patience and support. This is only the first step of a long journey, and I hope that you will join us for the rest of it. We always try to recognise and reward all those who have helped us in different ways. I hope what we do here can kickstart a new meta where founders think hard about how to reward good actors and punish bad ones -- each subsequent airdrop sculpting our community into a better, friendlier and more earnest place. == On the $CLOUD airdrop, part 1 == There is a rot in crypto: the scams, the ponzis, the memecoin rugs. The bigger we grow, the more grifters show up -- like centipedes slithering out of the floorboards -- and the more polluted this space gets. But strip away the rotten outside, and you'll find a tiny kernel of good people. These are people who understand the Primordial Vision of crypto. They know why we're here. --- These good people are the ones we love, embrace, and reward. We reward good people so they won't lose hope; to remind them that other good people exist; to encourage them to stay around and help us build a better world. That is our North Star: to reward the behaviour we want to see more of. ^[1] == Earnestness == What is "good"? What behaviour do we reward? In one word -- earnestness. Earnestness means doing the right thing for the right reasons ^[2]. It means caring about @sanctumso because you believe in our mission, not just because you want an airdrop. Earnestness is long-term alignment, boundless optimism, anti-greed. Earnestness is love and a little bit of naivete -- loving the awesome potential of crypto, and wanting to build that future together. We have been very public about this: see my ever public thread (x.com/soleconomist/s…). On podcasts and other public appearances I have always underlined the importance of being earnest. Heck, the answer for Quest 4 (which over 100,000 wallets completed) was "the earnest shall build our new world". We believe that earnestness is just as important as capital. Hence we reward it appropriately. Half of the airdrop (5%) will be allocated in proportion to Wonderland XP. The other half (5%) will be allocated according to earnestness. How to measure earnestness though? Talk is cheap -- everyone will say they are earnest. This is why we launched Sanctum Profiles. We have assigned every profile that connected a social account an Earnestness Level. For most of these profiles this level will be zero -- only profiles with non-negligible contribution will have an Earnestness Level. The higher your Earnestness Level, the larger your share of the 5% allocation will be. Additionally, anyone with a nonzero Earnestness will get a small multiplier to all their Wonderland EXP. We focused on rewarding what we want to see more of. We want to see real understanding, explanation, and evangelism of our mission; detailed and unsolicited feedback to improve the protocol; users translating our posts and podcasts into other languages; asking thoughtful questions; helping new users on the Discord; reporting spam, and so on. A lot of metrics are easily gamed and therefore we did not use them. That means no silly Zealy quests, no Discord level grinding, no simple counting of Twitter posts/Discord messages. Only real contribution, as judged by the team, was rewarded. We have spent the past months searching through Twitter, Discord, Telegram, YouTube etc. to identify contributions, from 2023 all the way up to the cutoff date. Contribution does *not* mean pure bullposts or "yes-men". Posts like "excited for this new feature" or "team keeps shipping!!" -- while much appreciated -- did not qualify. Neither did posts like "Sanctum is going to be the next big airdrop and here is how to farm it". Instead, we looked for thoughtful posts that helped push the discussion forward or improve the protocol, regardless of whether they agreed with us or not. There were several people with negative but thoughtful comments and we made sure to reward them too. We tried to include absolutely everybody when searching for contributions. We made liberal use of Google Translate and asked trusted community members from around the world to suggest people who have been helpful in non-English-language communities. But we are only human. We also had to make some judgement calls placing people between between tiers. If you are a person who was missed out in this round, fret not. There will almost certainly be more airdrops in the future, and if you continue to be earnest, I am sure that you will be rewarded. Even if you did not create a profile or connect your socials, you will still be eligible for the $CLOUD airdrop. There are good reasons not to (privacy and/or security) so we would not punish anyone for that. But those who chose to, and have contributed substantially to the protocol, get a boost. --- A lot of blood has been spilled over "linear vs tiered", but this is a false dichotomy. What we really care about is rewarding the people who have contributed to our protocol -- by capital or by earnestness. No airdrop is going to make everybody happy. But that's OK -- we are trying our hardest to make good people happy instead.
