I’m tired of these half-baked arguments. Amaravati is being judged as if it were an organically evolving city, when it is a planned capital created out of immediate administrative necessity. Governance infrastructure cannot “grow over time” it has to exist upfront for the state to function. Capital investment is not meant to generate immediate revenue. It creates the conditions for long-term growth…economic activity, land value, and institutional efficiency. Phasing is sensible, but under-building at the foundational stage only leads to higher costs, inefficiencies, and permanent structural limitations. Borrowing for infrastructure is standard global practice because these are enabling assets, not standalone profit centers. Amaravati is not trying to replicate how cities like Bengaluru or Chennai evolved. It follows a globally established model of planned capital creation. What is dismissed as “excess” today is often investment in scalability and future readiness. The real question is not whether to build cautiously, but whether to build adequately for the next 50–100 years in this rapidly growing world.

Bengaluru was founded in 1537 by Kempe Gowda, Hyderabad in 1591 by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, and Chennai in 1639 by the British East India Company under Francis Day. It took 500, 430, and 380 years respectively for them to become the metropolitan cities they are today. These cities were not built in haste, but shaped over generations. Amaravati cannot be manufactured overnight with borrowed money and grand illusions, especially when it is not self-financing as claimed. Build the basics first, Assembly, Secretariat, High Court, and essential housing for government employees and stop there. Let Amaravati grow organically with people, business, and time. A capital city must rise from strength, not debt. Indiscriminate spending on fancy designs and oversized infrastructure is not vision; it is financial recklessness. Every unwarranted rupee spent today becomes a burden on the people of Andhra Pradesh tomorrow. Loans for non-revenue-generating projects do not build prosperity, they strain public finances. Governance requires functionality, not vanity architecture.
