Day 28. The escalation just changed character. On March 27, less than 24 hours after Trump extended his pause on striking Iranian energy infrastructure to April 6 because “talks are going very well,” Israel struck two of Iran’s largest steel factories, a power plant, and for the first time in this war, civilian nuclear sites. The targets per Araghchi’s X post and confirmed by IDF, Al Arabiya, AP, and Times of Israel: Khuzestan Steel near Ahvaz. Mobarakeh Steel in Isfahan. The Khondab heavy water complex in Arak, described by the IDF as a “key plutonium production site.” The Ardakan yellowcake production facility in Yazd, the only plant of its kind in Iran per the IDF. Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization confirmed no radiation leak. The IAEA is investigating. Araghchi’s response on X was precise: “Israel has hit 2 of Iran’s largest steel factories, a power plant and civilian nuclear sites among other infrastructure. Israel claims it acted in coordination with the U.S. Attack contradicts POTUS extended deadline for diplomacy. Iran will exact HEAVY price for Israeli crimes.” Hours later, Iran delivered on the promise. Multiple ballistic missile barrages targeted central Israel including the Tel Aviv area. 78,109 sirens have sounded across Israel since February 28 per Channel 12. Over 450 ballistic missiles launched from Iran since the war began. IDF reports a 92% interception rate for missiles heading toward populated areas. Nine warheads with hundreds of kilograms of explosives have struck populated zones. Simultaneously, explosions ripped across Bahrain and the UAE overnight. Iranian missiles targeted BAPCO refinery facilities near Riffa. The UAE reported intercepting six ballistic missiles and nine drones on March 27 alone, bringing cumulative interceptions since the war began to 378 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles, and 1,835 drones. Kuwait’s Mubarak Al Kabeer Port came under attack. The IRGC warned employees of Gulf industrial sites “that have American shareholders” to “leave their workplaces immediately.” Now connect this to the energy matrix nobody is integrating. This is happening against a backdrop where Qatar has already declared force majeure on LNG contracts with Italy, Belgium, South Korea, and China after March 18-19 missile strikes destroyed 17% of its LNG export capacity at Ras Laffan. QatarEnergy CEO al-Kaabi said the damage set the region back 10 to 20 years. Three to five years for repairs. Twenty billion dollars annual revenue loss. Kuwait and Bahrain have also invoked force majeure. The Strait of Hormuz remains functionally closed, with the IRGC operating a selective toll corridor collecting yuan-denominated payments per Lloyd’s List. The S&P 500 closed its worst week since the war began. Fifth consecutive losing week. Down 8.7% from its January all-time high. Crude oil rose again with no end in sight. The Pentagon confirmed 82nd Airborne elements deploying to CENTCOM. OSINT tracking documented over 60 C-17 flights this week from major special operations bases to forward staging areas in Israel and Jordan. This is not de-escalation. Trump extended a pause. Israel escalated through it. Iran retaliated across the entire Gulf. The IRGC is now explicitly threatening the industrial infrastructure of every American ally in the region. And the April 6 deadline approaches with nuclear sites already burning and the strait still closed. The market is pricing a diplomatic window. The evidence says the window is being walled shut from both sides. Full deep dive analysis - open.substack.com/pub/shanakaans…

Reports of a major Iranian ballistic missile attack targeting Gulf countries tonight, with explosions reported in the UAE and Bahrain. Seen here, an Iranian ballistic missile makes its way through interceptors and hits the ground in Bahrain.

We are ending the week with US oil prices at $101/barrel, the S&P 500 at a 232-day low, and the US 10Y Note Yield at 4.44%. If the last 14 months have taught us anything, it is that the next 50 hours until the 6 PM ET futures open on Sunday are going to be highly eventful. Trump must contain the bond market immediately. Turn on our post notifications at @KobeissiLetter to be notified of real-time developments and our analysis as this progresses. We expect a very busy weekend ahead.

'73-'74 recession and bear market (worst one since 1929 at the time) and the '90 recession and bear market were both caused by an accelerated rise in oil prices. Crude Oil breaking out of a 4 year range.

🚨#BREAKING: At this time emergency crews are on the scene of a massive fire at an egg farm near Corwith, Iowa, which has spread to multiple buildings.
