I think common sense is on life-support! I teach high school auto shop and because of a burn one of my students received, I had to place this warning sign on my oxygen acetylene cutting torch. Using this cutting torch, I had just cut a rather large bolt off of a steering box and the hot nut fell on the floor. A student reached down with his bare hands and picked up that nut, and of course burned himself. He then yelled at me for not telling him that that nut would be hot. I would have thought that the fact that I just cut it off with a torch and it was on the ground still glowing red would be a clue that it would be hot. So now I put a sign on the torch and I spend some time during safety training to tell them to not pick up a glowing red nut off of the floor!

How Massachusetts' coldest winter in 15 years helped us beat Meta FAIR and Google DeepMind This winter I didn't pay a single heating bill. At Verda, we've been training watermarking models that survive everything the real internet throws at them — re-encoding, screenshotting, sharing, filtering. Building this at a shoestring budget meant getting creative. My solution: heat my apartment with GPUs. The GPU cluster ran 24/7 from my apartment all winter. Massachusetts then decided to have its coldest winter in 15 years. Didn't matter. The apartment was warm. And I accidentally discovered the world's simplest ML monitoring system. How cold I woke up every morning told me exactly how efficient the training and validation runs were the night before. Warm apartment, good run. Freezing apartment, something crashed at 3am. I didn't even need GPU monitoring 📷 Here's the part that still surprises me. What came out of that apartment, built by a small team at a fraction of the budget and some GPU credits, outperforms Google DeepMind's SynthID and Meta FAIR's AudioSeal and VideoSeal. Not just on benchmarks. Demonstrably better. Their watermarks leave artifacts. Ours don't. See the examples below. And it's not just a research project. It's a product anyone can use today. Link in the first comment. Verify post at: verda.ai/Vo06ni.

AOC cost 25,000 people their jobs in Queens by opposing Amazon’s project. Elizabeth Warren and Mayor Pete cost 17,000 people their jobs by opposing the JetBlue-Spirit merger. Gavin Newsom cost 82,000 people their jobs by driving Tesla, SpaceX, Oracle, Chevron, Palantir, Charles Schwab, and HP out of California. Joe Biden and Kamala cost 11,000 people their jobs by shutting down construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. None of this was a mistake. It’s a policy choice by Democrats. Unemployed and displaced workers turn to and become dependent on government social programs. Without welfare recipients and illegal aliens, Democrats don’t have a base.

IRAN SEIZES SANCTIONED CHINESE OIL TANKER Iran’s navy seized the Chinese-owned tanker Ocean Koi in the Sea of Oman, saying it was carrying Iranian oil and disrupting the country’s exports. Iranian state media showed footage of the operation. The vessel and its Shanghai-based owner were sanctioned by the U.S. earlier this year over alleged Iranian oil shipments.

Typical. Need a black president- run a community activist with zero experience. Biden calls his shot in advance, his Supreme Court pick will be black and lacking credentials. And Cackling Camela- how’s that hand picked black female first working out…? Do Democrats ever consider anything other than race?

2026 and 2028 are going to be desperation level, potential existential events, for Democrats. Between the Census accurately reflecting population shifts and the end of racial gerrymandering that guaranteed them seats in overwhelmingly red states, the Dems will lose maybe as many as 30 seats in the House. They won't just be "competitive" -- these will be likely safe Dem seats becoming likely safe GOP seats. They will become largely a party of the cities to a degree even greater than they are that now. And they are titling farther left in the direction of Euro socialism and the DSA at the same time. They are staring at a future where they are under 180 seats in good election years, and bouncing down around 160 seats in bad years.

Watching crypto bros pretending to understand trad fi is my new entertainment. “…Proceeds fund Bitcoin purchases, giving holders indirect BTC exposure” lol. No. Zero exposure to Saylor’s BTC hoard. STRC shareholders don’t own BTC, have no claim to it. Likely wont receive any return of capital in the event of bankruptcy as bond holders get paid 1st, before shareholders. Even if BTC price moons STRC is still $100.00/ par value. The deal is- you commit permanent (perpetual) capital for saylor to do with as he pleases. You have near zero rights to ROC. In exchange you get junk bond level yield payments.

False. Here’s Grok’s analysis: Yes—Saylor nailed it. Michael Saylor and Strategy Inc. (formerly MicroStrategy) designed $STRC—the Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock—as a brilliantly engineered hybrid that functions, for all practical purposes, like a yield-bearing stablecoin… while legally dodging every restriction that would apply to one. As of May 2026, STRC trades at ~$99.86 (tightly anchored near its $100 par). Strategy’s board adjusts the dividend monthly—currently 11.50% annualized, paid in cash—to keep the price stable and strip out volatility. Proceeds fund Bitcoin purchases, giving holders indirect BTC exposure plus high, predictable yield. Once tokenized on-chain (via DeFi wrappers like Saturn’s USDat/sUSDat or Buck’s “Bitcoin Dollar” savings coin), it becomes fully blockchain-native: peer-to-peer transferable, tradable, lendable, and usable in yield strategies exactly like a crypto asset. Economically and in daily use, it walks, quacks, and earns like the ultimate yield-bearing stablecoin—stable stored value + passive 11.5% yield + on-chain liquidity. Here’s the genius (and the “mog”): Under the Clarity Act’s May 2026 yield ban, regulated payment stablecoins are barred from paying interest or yield solely for holding (to protect banks). But STRC isn’t a payment stablecoin. It’s a digital asset security—a tokenized Nasdaq-listed preferred equity. The Act explicitly green-lights yield, dividends, and on-chain trading for securities and RWAs. So tokenized STRC sails right past the prohibition. It’s clever financial engineering: perpetual preferred structure + dynamic dividend mechanism + BTC treasury backing = a product that delivers more yield and usability than any compliant fiat-pegged stablecoin can legally offer. Of course, it carries credit and issuer risk (Strategy Inc. could falter), unlike ultra-safe regulated stables. But functionally, it mogs them. Saylor turned traditional finance plumbing into on-chain digital credit—and the Clarity Act’s category-based rules let it thrive.

CLARITY doesn’t allow “stablecoins” to be backed by $STRC. But it allows tokenized $STRC… because $STRC is not a stablecoin; it is a security. But it would be, in effect, a stablecoin backed by $STRC… few.

@dogwoodblooms Sorry. That’s BS. I grew up here. Born in ‘74 and seen its evolution. Is it the same it was “back then”? No. And that’s a good thing. I never saw cloggers. Old man in front of a Hardee’s? Nope. Has Asheville changed? Yes. And it will continue to change. Embrace it.

Folks keep tagging me. They want to know: Is Asheville really that bad? YES. And regardless of what this article says, it’s not a new problem that developed after Helene. I grew up in Canton. When we “went to town,” it was to Asheville. Mamaw and Papaw took me to the flea market in Asheville multiple times a year. We did our clothes shopping at the Asheville JCPenney. When Papaw had to go to the VA, it was in Asheville. Daddy took me to the Belle Chere music festival every year. Back then, Asheville was a hillbilly Mecca. Old men sat on benches outside Hardee’s with their sausage biscuits and coffee to gossip. Bluegrass played on gas station speakers. People clogged on weekends. Folks sounded like they’d never left WNC—the accents were thick. By the time the city ended Belle Chere in 2013, Asheville had become a place I didn’t recognize. Transplants had flooded out the locals, who escaped to Madison and Haywood counties. Local accents? Gone. Bluegrass and clogging? Bastardized by people with zero ties to the traditions. The old men at Hardee’s? Replaced by homeless junkies nodding off and drooling on themselves. It’s so bad that I’ve avoided Asheville for more than a decade. Only one of my children has ever been to the city, and she only went so I could take her to the Biltmore House. Asheville is like an infection—and as much as it pains my heart to admit it, that infection is spreading. The last time I was in Canton, we went out to eat. There wasn’t a single person in the restaurant with a local accent. Women in Lilly Pulitzer and men in dock shoes walked the sidewalks where overalls and work boots once ruled. It won’t be long before the same policies that created this new Asheville turns the rest of WNC into a shell of its former self. 💔

In consultation with @SecWar, we will EXTEND the A-10 “Warthog” platform to 2030. This preserves combat power as the Defense Industrial Base works to increase combat aircraft production. Bro acts like revolution is painless bloodless coup. 😆 . After the American revolution colonials tarred and feathered British loyalists. Siezed businesses and property, burned farms. Loyalists fled to Nova Scotia and British possessions in the Caribbean. To avoid retribution. Does this make Paul Revere a socialist? Was Dr Joseph Warren a Nazi? Washington a Potentate? Of course not.

@1_2MOA @TKratman The guillotine was used indiscriminately during the French Revolution. The king and queen are two people. About 27,000 to 37,000 were killed. And like all Socialist revolutionaries, they eventually guillotined each other.

From Martin Iles, reposted: Having lived in the USA for nearly two years, I've realised something. The USA and the remainder of the Western world are no longer aligned. We all laugh and mock when the Americans say, "Freedom!" because we truly think we're as free as they are. Wrong. We're not. Not even close. The laws, the mindset, and the behaviour, is totally different in this regard. Most of all, the governments are totally different. The USA's convictions around core freedoms are on a scale we do not share. Meanwhile, Donald Trump wins the popular vote, the electoral college, the House, and the Senate... a man who, in every other Western country, is held in open derision, if not contempt. For these and other reasons, we are not the same. Yet the West, including Australia, fully expect to rely on the USA for our very survival. If the world turns bad (which will happen - only a question of time), then the whole West, without America, is toast. So, you may ask - if we're not very aligned ideologically, then it must be that we bring something to the party militarily? Well, no... actually... we don't matter that much militarily. The USA has about 470 ships in its navy, including 11 aircraft carriers, 69 submarines, 75 destroyers... plus 110 new ships in the pipeline. Australia has about 30, including 3 destroyers, 7 frigates and 7 outdated submarines. The UK does a little better, with about 60. Meanwhile, the US has over 14,000 military aircraft. A staggering number. Australia has 252 military aircraft. The UK has 556. The US army has just shy of 1,000,000 uniformed personnel in its military. Australia has about 45,000. The USA spends 3.4% ($968 billion) of its GDP on defence. Australia spends 2% ($36.4 billion). The US spends as much as the next 15 largest military-spending countries (including China) combined. The USA has a fighting culture. The men shoot things (a lot) and hunt things, the veterans get favoured in everything from parking spots to boarding planes. A uniformed young man is thanked in the street a dozen times a day. "Oh, the Americans and their guns!" we say, in our smug way. Yes, they have a warrior culture. We do not. We don't have to, because we're a leech on theirs. How many young British men are willing to fight for their country? Now ask the same regarding young American men. The difference is about as wide as it could be. Militarily, we don't offer squat. Meanwhile, look at the way Australia works against America's interests by loving on China. China made us rich and we stay close. This is a Marxist regime with expansionist aims. Again, you have to spend time in the USA to realise just how vast a gulf there is between us on China. Europe, too. They let China have their way everywhere from Germany to Greenland, all the while importing Islam and sending their own people to court for saying hurty words. Somehow, we have landed the deal of a lifetime with the USA that says, "when the baddies come, you'll save us ok?" Because we can't save ourselves. And we live in peace. But we keep gnawing away at freedoms, keep enabling China, and get flabby and disinterested about our military because Uncle Sam's got it. And, let's be honest, Americans are widely looked down on. To add insult to injury, we don't think that highly of our protectors. So, the USA is finally saying "enough." I am here, I can tell you what the vibe is, and that's it. Trump is doing what people want in this regard. They're over it. And we come across all shocked and hard done by. We behave like people with no self-insight at all. Yes, the global alliance system is all over the place now. From America's perspective, it's about time. And I must say, though I be a proud Australian, I am forced to agree. Something has to change.
