@bryan_johnson @helios_brah That sounds like no sun exposure = lone sedentary lifestyle VS active lifestyle wift friends = sun exposure. Could explain life extension better than just sun exposure

This study is in Sweden, where people barely get any sun, the sunny season is short, and it’s it often cloudy even in summer. In this case, getting uncontrolled sun exposure in Sweden might have more benefits than risks. In that low-UV context, the survival benefit outweighed a small rise in skin cancer deaths. So much so that strict sun avoidance looked as risky as smoking. It is different in California, Italy, or any other sunny place. I love the sun. But it's not free. It's a trade-off of age-related skin damage. Each person can choose their trade off space according to their preferences.

Ironic. Because sun avoidance was a risk to mortality on the same level of cigarette smoking in this Swedish study with pretty exceptionally good data quality:

@hubermanlab I'm from Europe and lived in countries there. No water fluoridation and is difficult to even find toothpaste with fluoride. Is there a research that Europeans have bad teeth? My grandfather is 101 and until recently had his teeth. He lives in Croatia, with no fluoride in water.

@CezaryXR @Egon_the_Dog @afoxdesign I don't know if they actually use two cameras as those have different focal length, but even if they do, at 1cm intercultural distance, there has to be a lot of improvisation to make the effect look decent. I've noticed that on portraits, faces look stretched in 3d

@Egon_the_Dog @3dguy @afoxdesign He probably means (though I’m not sure) that the cameras on the iPhone 15 Pro and 16 are too close to create a strong depth effect. From my experience with the 15 Pro, there is some 3D effect, but it’s much less pronounced compared to what the Beam Pro or Vision Pro can capture.

@Egon_the_Dog @afoxdesign For proper 3D you need two cameras, one camera per eye at about 64mm apart. Read on stereoscopic 3D. IPhone fakes it, probably through depth camera and some AI processing. Plus the field of view is small compared to even old 3D cameras

@afoxdesign Quest pro had that drawing nib you can put into controller to make it into a stylus for VR, never even tried it. Quest 3 has that new Lenovo stylus... Never tried it and pretty sure nobody is using it. That all sounds exciting as an idea, but people don't really want to use it

@concept_central In work in college, a masters program for computer arts. Every year we have less and less students using Macs. They are good only for audio production, and for everything else, Windows workstations are kings despite Windows getting worse.

Imagine being so out of touch that you think releasing games "also" on VR is even possible. A game must be built from the ground up for VR or it's gonna be a garbage VR game.
John Mkclane@JohnMk39

@palaeoporco @SSTheBlueLynx @metacritic Fair point, still the way to go for now is releasing games "also" on VR, not "only" on VR

@afoxdesign The "computing part" is 30g, completely insignificant for both weight and thickness. You can attach vision pro battery to the back of headset and you already have that

Apple Vision Pro vs Meta Ray-bans It’s easy to forget how small the actual Vision Pro computer is. Imagine if they move some of that compute to the battery pack, like Magic Leap. Already way closer to Orion.

@UploadVR I'm pretty sure the WMR reference design used dual 2.89-inch LCD displays with 1440 x 1440 per-panel in a fixed IPD. God those panels were so horrible, they had near-no colour, dull looking, and then combined with the bad Fresnels, it was... definitely something.

Computers have insanely better CPUs and much more RAM nowadays, yet they feel slower than 20 years ago. I used to think it happens because computers do more useful work. Turns out, better hardware is more forgiving to crappy coding practices.

@ID_AA_Carmack OK but why hollow facial interface at all @Azadux? Halo head mounts to the same thing without anything on the face. Using this with Bobo VR for years, just removing the face cushion completely when working in AR
