@eggs_eth @nicksdjohnson ENS is affordable for everyone and there are even many cheap names like base.eth and free subnames like linea.eth, gemini.eth and uni.eth.
You know why 3-4 character names are cost more is because of their desirability (shorter and easier to remember) AND limited their supply.

Hey @nicksdjohnson. If its a public good, it should be affordable for everyone. @ensdomains has charged me $3200 for EACH 3 letter name I hold since 2021. I dont even get a Thank you card. I basically sustain all the ENS whales bc they pay $5. ENS should fix this disparity or suffer the consequences.

What would you pay more for on secondary - a name that costs $5/year, or the same name that cost $640/year? Carrying costs decrease the value of names, which make them less attractive as speculative assets. Pricing based on length is a blunt instrument, but it's better than a flat rate across all names.

The real issue is that ENS Labs isn’t building simple, user-friendly solutions. If PayPal already supports ENS, why not go further—let users link their ENS directly to their PayPal accounts, or even register ENS names through PayPal? Instead, the focus seems to be on adding ENS features to DNS, rather than making ENS genuinely useful for everyday people.
The same goes for exhanges

I don't think its spoken about in such a direct way
If the answer is "further integrations", i'd consider that a passive strategy / maintenance

I think the ENS team applied for .ens mainly for brand protection, not to launch a new project. If it ever goes live, .ens should be allocated to .eth holders.

I've been sounding the alarm since last year, but it's official now.
@unstoppableweb & @mattgould are abandoning web3 domains.
4 million web3 domains -- likely hundreds of millions of dollars spent by customers -- are now being phased out and buried.

DNS domains now compose 90%+ of our business, and as we move to get several of our TLDs also listed in ICANN over the next few years our focus will continue to grow on the DNS and traditional internet market. We expect that 2-3 years from now DNS and the traditional web will be 99%+ of our business. For this reason you'll see updates on our site to reflect our new focus on traditional web2 domains. This is intentional. Web3 only domains were part of the crypto craze in 2021 but did not cross the chasm into mainstream usage. And for a while now we have believed they will remain a niche market now and into the future. They were a great place to start our journey into domains, but going forward our focus will be even more on the traditional market as it's the market that has crossed the chasm and is seeing mainstream usage.
