@monkeyteacher79 @EricRStPierre 2/2get you decent coverage) USD has more buying power and less taxes. USA is far from perfect, but anyone who spends time there quickly realizes you're way better off, unless you're a leech. Pretend you're moving to TX or NV, look up taxes, a job and housing compared to your town
English

@monkeyteacher79 @EricRStPierre 1/2 - 5k is high risk costal + fire zones - a real comparison to me would be Northern Low risk states. *I paid 4500 until I had 15 years no claims. I priced out health insurance in Nevada when I was looking to move there, 8k for gold standard, vision + dental. (Any good job will-
English

@monkeyteacher79 @EricRStPierre I live in the Northern ON, my home insurance is 2k/yr, property tax is 6k, and pay over 10k/yr in taxes for my "free" health care (you can find the numbers based on income). + My employer pays 6k/yr for drugs + dental. Remind me why it's better here? Canada is 50% pay to pay btw
English

@EricRStPierre Sounds good till you read the fine print. Healthcare, house insurance and the general state of Americans living paycheck to paycheck

@AutismCapital Have y'all never seen a JRE podcast with a "goofy" comedian that says random shit? It's the same with every pod he does with Theo, Normand, Harland - Rogan plays it like he doesn't realize they're joking. It doesnt always work and it gets awkward. Personally, I find it hilarious.
English

@seanmdav @ChloeCole For the people who thought you could match a bullet to a gun (myself being one of them) and would like to know why/how it's junk science, could you please explain why that's the case? I just came across this post and I'm genuinely curious.
English

The “science” of matching bullets to specific rifle or pistol barrels is nonsense and always has been. There is no scientific process that allows you to take a spent round that has been deformed and fragmented and then conclusively determine that it came from this or that specific firearm. Same goes for matching bullet casings to specific guns. It is 100% junk science. Same goes for matching bullet casings to specific guns. Anyone who still believes in this junk has spent way too much time watching fictional network crime drama. Thankfully courts have finally started rejecting this fake evidence and refusing to allow so-called experts to provide testimony relying upon it.

@Gladstonian1953 @legallymsjuno Life Hack - I'm English first with decent French. I always choose French when given the option with customer service. Instead of getting an Indian that can barely speak English I get a quebecer that gets frustrated with my French and switches to English.
English

@legallymsjuno Do you speak French? If not, how do you know they don't speak intelligible French.
I encounter no problems dealing with them in French.
English

OK so if the CEO of Air Canada has to step down because his French isn't good enough and it's "disrespectful to French customers"...
Can we apply the same energy to all the government agencies in Ontario & Canada (federal + provincial) where the staff literally can't speak understandable English or French?
Especially the ones on the phone.
Does this mean we should start demanding that public servants actually speak clear English and French? Asking for a taxpayer who's tired of saying "pardon?" 47 times. 🇨🇦
English

@greg16676935420 Wait, so if something is stolen from me, can I claim it as an expense?
English

@NordstromKaiju @AirCanada Last week the first leg of my flight was rescheduled 2x - 3rd time I decided to drive 5hrs to catch the 2nd leg - missed it b/c I was 6.5 hrs on hold so I could let them know I was going to make the 2nd one. No staff at the airport could help - told me to call the helpline.
English

@luisjgomez Bummer you had to reschedule - had a whole night planned around it. Good news is I was able to snag @SteveRannazzisi tickets instead.
English

@luisjgomez bummed you had to move the Toronto show. I live 5 hours away and had a whole weekend planned around it. It is what it is, I'm sure there's a good reason - I can't make the rebook but I'll buy tickets the next time you're through. 🤘
English

@blemmy @BrilliantMaps Dude, I'm French Canadian - do you really think that all 25% of the french Canadians can't speak English? Yes, we have QC, and NB + ON have large French populations, but a very small portion of them can't speak English. Try finding a Frenchman in MTL that can't speak English.
English

@BrilliantMaps Do you realize that about 25% of Canadians are French speakers? Montreal is the second largest predominantly French speaking city in the world.

@Michphil1998 I've thought about this for decades - I think it's mostly drivers that don't pay attention to the numbers, they just drive at a "comfortable" speed. They naturally speed up when you get next to them/when the roads widen. It used to anger me to no end, now I just play the game.
English

@Zoya_ki_batein Nah, you're not interesting - and so are the women you're preaching to. Myself and most of my friends love hanging out with our GF's/wives because they're hot AND interesting. I'm pumped to hear about her interests, and we've adopted eachother's hobbies. Be an interesting woman.
English

Most men are gay. They're literally gay. Because they don't really like us women. Our natural bodies, they think it's gross. Our interests, they think it's cringe. Spending time with us, they think it's like a responsibility. And if a guy has a girlfriend, and instead of date night with her, he genuinely wants to be with the boys, and he feels it's a punishment that he can't spend time with his boys, he doesn't really like her. So I genuinely think most men are gay but they haven't figured it out because being gay is like also too feminine for them and they don't like feminine things.

@jaieirhwbdurh12 @poirierfelix12 @Captain_Fubar I was just in Alabama for the first time last year. I live in Sudbury, it's fairly similar, but with snow. I know most of the population lives south of that line, but it looks pretty shitty up here.
English

@poirierfelix12 @Captain_Fubar Downtown in Canada vs Downtown in Alabama. Canada looks way poorer on street view too lol 😂

English

@the_transit_guy I have no idea how things work in Florida, but I pay for water and sewer, shouldn't that cover the infrastructure? And the fuel tax cover roads and sidewalks? Electricity infrastructure is paid for by the electrical bill etc.
English

So the sidewalks and sewers in Florida will be paid by sales tax?
Breaking911@Breaking911
The Florida House voted 80–30 to abolish all non-school property taxes for homeowners.
English

@thedeparted_rat More would be happy to pay for a national news service that reported unbiased news. At the very least it would be nice if they had programs with opposing views. A good hunk of the country is tired of paying for 1 side's propaganda, so yes, 30$ isn't ok.
English

cbc/radio-canada costs taxpayers approx $33-$34 per person annually, which breaks down to about a dime a day per citizen

It ain’t free, buddy.
English

@Victori49569624 @zuzum @MarcNixon24 If we were to abolish net zero, we could prioritize the cheapest options first, and only use solar and wind for peaks. The guaranteed contracts, mandated by net zero goals have handicapped us and raised costs unnecessarily.
English

@Victori49569624 @zuzum @MarcNixon24 Abolishing net 0 ≠ not allowing alternatives. Mandating solar + wind in 🇨🇦 with guaranteed high 💲contracts has resulted in keeping base load hydro generators offline to use solar first. During peaks, hydro cannot be started quickly, so we are forced to buy from USA at premium.
English

@TansuYegen No one owns property in Canada either. We pay taxes instead of a lease. If you stop paying, they take it.
